1999 tourer won't start

My valk has been having some idle issues when it gets warm but today it died. I figured the idle trouble was a vac leak but after changing the hoses, especially the one to the petcock it still won't crank. Appears to have spark so it prob gas. I changed the in-line fuel filter and flushed the old gas which was pretty dirty. Any ideas? It died like it was running out of gas. The idle problem had a similar feature.

You say you have an in-line filter.

It is higher than any of the fuel line headed to the carbs?

If so that is probably your problem.    It has to be on the same level.
That is one reason I always suggest ya get rid of the in-line filter.

If not, then I'd suspect the petcock.

There are three vitals when it comes to fuel supply. Vacuum to open the petcock. Sounds like you may have cleared this as a possibility.
Air supply to the tank. If vacuum is not an issue, there may be a problem with the air supply to the tank. The little steel tube that comes off the tank connects to a vent hose. If the vent hose is pinched or collapsed you will experience the exact symptoms you have described. It's very easy to check. Simply open the gas cap and try running her that way.
Third is fuel delivery. Stock Valk petcocks are gravity fed once the vacuum opens the petcock valve. If air flow to the tank is not the issue, try pulling the fuel line off the petcock and sucking on the vacuum line that opens the petcock valve. Fuel should flow freely.

If you're sure its not starting because of a fuel issue, then it seems to me as though you may have a petcock issue. It may need rebuilding or replacing.

try starting it with the gas tank open, if you dont have a spare key you can remove the key from the cap by depressing the locking ring.

If it runs better with the cap open then you have a tank venting problem, vent line kinked or plugged

Seems to me that gas was, and now is, your problem causer.

Massive doses of an additive is most likely going to be your saver.

You can't neglect these Valkyries and expect them to perform.

Be sure to drain all the gas from the carburetors too.
