Has there ever been any discussion about another board for non-motorcycle related topics?

Separating it out that way would allow the political animals to flame away while us gearheads talked about motorcycles. . . jus' sayin'.

Uh, Yes.  Waaaaaaay more than several times.  Short answers is......ain't gonna happen.

Why?

Answers have been given before.....along the lines of more to moderate and to keep an eye on.  Again, it's been asked and it isn't going to happen.

That is a weak ass excuse if ever I heard one.  Why would there be more to moderate?  A political post is a political post, if it is in general or in an off topic section.  You don't see a bunch of Classified posts in General.  You don't see a bunch of Tech posts in General.  Those posts don't occur in General because it is common sense that if you want to place a Classified Ad you do it in the Classified section.  The same would be true of a Politics or Off-Topic Section.  Don't hide behind the "it would be more work" b.s.  It is because you like having the forum as a conservative political forum, and don't care much about the idea of it being a place for Valkyrie owners to band together, where no malice toward other Valkyrie riders will be tolerated.

The simple fact is that having a General Forum where politics is argued is incompatible with having a General Forum for Valkyrie owners to band together without malice.

You can bitch, whine and cry and make accusations about political slants all you want, but the truth is what I posted.  If you have a problem with it, then I strongly suggest that you take it up with Willow.  It's his playground and he's the one that has determined that he doesn't want to modorate a political board.

daddie o Over the past few months I've seen more crap come out of your keyboard than out of a elephant with a bad case of the craps.

Lies, half truth, omissions etc etc.

ps I'm leaving the board so any response is purely a waste of your time. Bet you can't resist responfidng and what's funny is I wont see it.

I don't always agree with everything you post Britman, but IMHO, it'd be a shame to see you go....especially in anger.

I felt the same way about Anvil when he got pissed and left.  I definitely don't agree with Anvil 99% of the time, and he can be one of the most antagonistic, pot stirring posters ever to grace this board, but I felt it a shame to see him go.....especially in anger.  Eventhough he's still a pot stirring antagonist and sometimes pisses me off royal, he still can be a value to the board at times and I'm glad he's back.

I'd hate to see you go too Britman.

However, DaddieO on the other hand....... :2funny:

We wouldn't want to create a Political Board.

We would continue the General Board where everything other than motorcycles is discussed, just as it is now.

We would create a Motorcycle Only Board.

The only change in moderation would be the occasional swap of non-bike stuff to the general board. Just a few clicks.

This is the norm in websites where I hang out, including Ih8mud.com, WelshBikers.co.uk and valkyrieridersuk.com amonst others.

Don't see the problem.
But then I've just been a lurker mostly for a long time. . . got my Valk in '99, my number is 1327, when would I have signed up? Anyway, I'm just tossing it out there.

The VRCC is dieing.  It's a fact that it is not what it use to be. Maybe the moderators have gotten lazy or the number of members is not there. Either way id like to see someone step up and make some changes to the board. Seems like the vast majority would like to see political posts in another section or make a motorcycle only board. I have been pushing around going away for awhile (maybe forever) and im one of the youngest members here. Might as well talk to a brick wall though.

well, in a way you're saying that "tongue-n-cheek" right?  didn't we loose 4 members to accidents this year?  that's pretty awful for a club this size.  it got to a point were I was starting to fear riding the cycle for fear of an accident!!

it's going to suck not having Brittman around anymore......  is it me or did he change his name from  "brittman" to "period"? isn't that something a women does?  (just to poke fun at yeah Paul, let us know where you end up going, I really enjoy your posts....)

As a member of this fine club for over 13 years I have seen some changes. The old forum that was used here used to crash all the time and was spammed on a daily bases. Carl and the other admins did a great job handling it but it took to much time to take care of. As a result the board was changed to this type of forum. Some bitched and complained they didn't like it but it was easier on the admin to take care of so all is well. It has been suggested MANY times over the years that we need a separate forum for non valk stuff. Whatever the reason the admins don't want to do it. I respect that, and since they run the board on their own time what they say goes. GET IT. What it boils down to is this. Don't like the way things are run here. TUFF. Go some place else. If you don't like the political post. SIMPLE. DON'T OPEN THEM. You can usually tell what threads are political and what are not. Move on,read something else.

There are a few members of this club that all they do is respond to or make Political post and DONT post anything motorcycle related at all or very little. (I dont have to say who,you know who you are). Britman is not one of them. He post Ride reports all the time. Yes he posts political stuff but he also posts Bike related things as well. I am guilty as well of responding to political posts. But with the upcoming winter for most of us that is all we can do. It would get REAL boring real fast if no one posted on the board at all during the cold season.....

Patrick

The board is changing, thats for sure. The tech board has really changed, the topics  and discussions aren't like they used to be. I don't spend as much time there as in the past. So, I started coming here. This board has also changed over the years also.

Check out this little gem:

Valkyrie Riders Cruiser Club was started because of the need to provide a place where Honda Valkyrie Riders could band together and share the combined wealth of knowledge about this great motorcycle. A simple place with no political structure and where malice toward other Motorcycle Riders will not be tolerated.

This line of bullshit is the first line you find when reading the About section of the VRCC.  I say it's bullshit not because I disagree with the sentiment, but because every single day you will see a crap ton of malice directed at Valkyrie riders that do not share conservative political ideology.

Instead of providing a place where Valkyrie riders could band together, it has become a place that is meant to drive Valkyrie riders with opposing political views away.  Matter of fact, if not for political postings you all would consider Wayne, Anvil, and I as part of the brotherhood of Valkyrie riders.  You will say, it's not what they said, but how they said it, without considering how you have said what you have said as well.
I am calln BS on this post.. the ONLY reason there is "a crap ton of malice" is because you are outnumbered.. YOU SIR flip just as much MALICE as anyone towards member of the opposite party.. yer just outnumbered and that's the reason for your WHINING now..

I just feel like, if you're gonna go and post political stuff then that's fine. Just don't complain if people have a counter argument. And REALLY don't complain if what you're posting is exposed as a blatant falsehood that was exposed ages ago. Just take your lumps and learn from it.

I am not so naive to believe that the entire world is going to like me.
Equally so, the world should not be so naive to believe that I am going to like everyone either.
I am hated by many and loved by few. But those that love me more than cover for those that hate me (see avatar)..
I don't waste effort wringing my hands over whether or not I am included in some sort of brotherhood or not. You either accept me or you don't...simple as that I figure.

I do know that this forum is an invaluable resource and the short time I have been here I have bookmarked tons of threads as reference and anytime I have posted a tech question, dozens of responses came in short order. As it should be.

However, it is beyond appropriate for the moderator of this forum to publically call out one member labeling him as "not part of the solution" when it is not, and never will be, that member's responsibility to be a part of the solution. If you are going to allow political topics to be posted then you should be prepared for just the sort of responses and rancor you mentioned.

I think that goes both ways, there are just fewer members that share your point of view.  There is name calling on both sides, it seems some folks revel in it.  I can't say I've never called another member a name, but I try yo avoid it.  I would have no problem riding with any VRCC member, unless they are a danger to other riders or themselves.

I personally enjoy following the political posts, it has made me at least consider others points of view, and if they get out of hand I quit following them.

Mods can only do so much and if one gets frustrated from time to time I can understand that. They're human beings just like the rest of us.

I'm not absolving myself either. I know there have been times when I've been sucked in and done things that I might not otherwise do.

I don't see this forum a a bad place whatsoever. But then again I don't get all butt hurt when someone yells at me at home either. Or when my neighbor in my COMMUNITY lets his dog do his business in my yard. I just feed my bull terrier an extra helping or two before we go for a walk to return the favor.

Cliches and ego stroking quoted above notwithstanding....if you can't grow a thick skin then find the "Little Kitty" forum and sign up.

I didn't say it was a "bad place". If it was a bad place I wouldn't come here at all. I don't frequent white supremacist forums just to get them riled up. I come here because though some of the members here have stupid opinions* I think that most everyone here is basically a good person and in fact, those stupid opinions and viewpoints make them interesting. But there's a certain level of respect due a human that we should all show each other, right?

*That brings me to anther point and it ties into your "thick skin" point. I think smart people can have stupid opinions. I know I've had opinions that, in retrospect, have proven to be pretty stupid. Am I personally hurt when someone attacks my opinion? No. I actually kind of enjoy it. I like debate and I like defending my positions. In the process of doing so I have actually seen other points of view and it has made me wiser. So there's a big difference (to me anyway) between a personal attack and an attack on a position. I think a lot of people here take attack on opinions personally.

And as I said, I have stepped over the line a few times calling people ding-dongs and such.
Boxer rebellion, the Holy Child. They all pay their rent.
But none together can testify to the rhythm of a road well bent.
Saddles and zip codes, passports and gates, the Jones' keep.

Some go away mad,  Bobbo, and some others we have seen many leave and then return
sometimes with new handles

rodeo1 now cma1
supperman now Clark
Beastmaster now WayneH and a few others I forget

Many others just changed their name

I started as ossiningvalkyrie but because of complaints that it took to long to type I went to Ossvalk and then Oss  That is why my post count is so low

Jamie aka The Anvil  left, he says for a break

I can respect that

I can respect Paul needing some fresh air as well

Sometimes my day, being an attorney sucks big time so I leave the board window open, the petty arguments dont bother me, kinda like the twins in front of the refrigerator I just filter it out

I will admit however that it is childish for anyone to call people names because of their politics

You want to get serious, do it in person, show up at a ride event and drink and ride with us and then
lets get rowdy talking trash.  In person, unlike hiding behind a keyboard we can see what you are really about  I have met most of y'all and enjoyed the company, even if I cant keep up
on the twisties
