Thought this was interesting-or maybe I'm just bored today

I was looking at the forum this morning and noticed the positioning of a couple of topics that struck me as interesting. Sooooo...since I obviously don't have enough work to do to keep me occupied I did a screenshot to post for the entertainment of anyone who is entertained by such things.

The proximity is amusing, looks like the first poster came back as an entirely different person.  ;D

I've got to say the more I read about darksiding the more tempting it is to try it out. I've still got a few more miles left on my shoes to think about it.

Is this what you need?

The way I looked at the choice was that I'd only be out 110 bucks or so to try the Darkside. I could have bought my Yokohama Avid Envigor online for about 87 bucks, but I was in a hurry and bought local.

That's a small price to pay if you don't like it. I'm also reasonably sure you could sell the tire if you only put on a few hundred miles
and decided it wasn't for you. Then again, you might just become another Dark Side convert!

I may start looking around for someone to mount it and I just may give it a try. I guess I really won't know if I like it until I see for myself.

Yeah, this is something that one has to see and try for themselves.
I'm on my second one. Goodyear Triple Tred. Got 33k out of the first one and wasn't even done yet.
Swapped it for a new one before an extended trip.

I don't recommend or not recommend going to the darkside but I do offer this guidance.

How many miles a year to you commonly travel?
If you are a mostly weekend rider and you are maybe accumulating 5-6k a year the darkside will probably not be for you.

If you are a rider that commonly rides in excess of 10k miles a year, and rides with "spirit" let's say, then it may be something you will like.

If you do make the switch, as you have seen, there is an ample amount of tech support for the Darkside choice and the bench is deep with experience.

I dont look at going darkside as how many miles you put on but how much traction is offered over a mc tire. I only ride 5-6k a year and have a car tire just for the traction, the milage I get out of them is just a bonus. I have not yet had the tire break traction. When I had mc tires there was several times the tire would slip in a corner espically on wet roads with tar snakes. Plus a ct is much cheaper.

The point I try to make is that the weekend rider and low mile rider will likely not ride enough to get comfortable with the change, won't spend time dialing in the psi, typically don't go on rides long enough or often enough to adjust to the slight handling changes  and likely will go just far enough to hate it. They just don't ride often enough. They tend to be novices. And maybe they are going through one rear tire every couple years.

The high mile rider will be spending time on the road, will be operating the bike often enough to dial in the psi, and riding long enough to become comfortable and familiar with the slight change in handling characteristics. They tend to be experienced riders and far more in tune to their machines. They'd go through a couple rear MC tires a season. At least.

I wasn't a novice rider when I made the switch and I thought "What have I done?" about 4 or 5 times in the first few miles. Got the handle and feel of it in short order and the rest is history.

I ain't sayin that a low mile rider can't or shouldn't. I'm just saying the odds are fairly good that they will likely hate it.
