Well expressed and written.  The universe is big beyond our words and yet we are and are so concerned about the smallest and yet most important things.  Good and bad.  They dance and they are so often not who we thing they are.

And it just goes on without regard for our own misgivings, concerns and failures.

But in the midst of it all something matters.

Great piece, in my opinion your best yet. 

I enjoy  when you have a conversation with your bike; we all do, but you bring it to life.

As far as sleeping the night under the stars with your bike, I've heard, in a pinch, that if you bring your rain resistant bike cover with you can crawl into it on the ground and stay warm and dry. 

Although the conversation with the bike next to you at that point is not fit to print.

Though I'm not sure about this one particular line: "I throw a leg over the gleaming machine and thumb the start button."  I have seen that machine and I don't know many that would describe it as "gleaming".
