Valkyrie OEM Hardbag Hinge Swap - I/S to Tourer

Guys (and gals):

I just swapped out the I/S hinges on my OEM bags with those from a Tourer so they'd open up and not to the side (I don't use a trunk).  Regarding this, I have two questions:

First, I have an Ultimate King Big Boy seat (with studs) - and the bags lids, when open, contact the rear outer edges of the seat; in fact, the seat appears to prevent them from opening fully (without a little added force).  Functionally, it's not a big deal - but I worry about the studs scratching the paint on my lids.  Is this a normal occurrence?

Second, I managed to track down all the OEM parts to do the switch - except for the wire lanyard that keeps the lid from opening too far (they have the little "barrel" stops affixed to each end).  There are two of these on each I/S bag, but they're considerably shorter in length.  Now, I can fashion my own easily enough - but if I can find them online at HDL or Bike Bandit . . . .

You might want to try a bait and tackle shop with the wire leaders....you might even be able to talk an experienced one to custom make one for you. The braided steel leaders with clear coating don't look bad either.

Thanks for the idea.  I think I may have located them on the OEM parts schematic - they're labeled "stoppers," if they're the correct item.  I ordered two (they're cheap), so we'll see. Terry

I have an Ultimate Seat with studs on my Tourer since 2003 and ... it has been doing the exact same thing since day 1!

To prevent scuffing, get some 2" wide black deco tape used on cars, boats, etc., it's peel and stick. Determine where it's hitting and apply the black tape there(assuming your bike is black) or whatever color you need. You can't see the tape since it's on the back side of the lid, and it works fine for preventing scuffing.
