Just answer this, say something like this was in the process of happening. Would you as an American, let the government march in your home and take away your guns peacefully?

Nope, I wouldn't.

But I also will fight tooth and nail at the earliest signs that there are those who want to move in that direction, to do whatever I can to put a halt to it BEFORE it gets to that point.

Are you saying we should just sit back and wait until it comes to the point that violence is the only way to defend our few remaining rights while they're kicking in our doors?

No, I would do the same damn thing you would, so wouldn't everyone else in the US (at least I hope they would), which is why I cannot for see the government ever trying to attempt doing such. The US has the largest free standing militia in the world.

Hope we can keep it that way!.  Would hate to have to depend on the government to watch after our rights.

All that I was wanting to get at during this debacle is that  US citizens out number any standing army, even our own branches combined. The government cannot and will not take it to that level, it would be suicide. Why the hell would they even want to? Everything about this doomsday, going to turn the American people into slaves crap pisses me off... It makes me feel like folks honestly are scared of the government. If that offended anyone I will apologize in person to you.

To think something like that is even remotely plausible is ridiculous IMHO.

To think it's not remotely plausible is, unfortunately, very naive. It's not only possible, in the long run it's highly probable if it's not fought very resolutely at the tiniest infraction NOW, before it gets to the tipping point.

So that's why I kick and scream at the tiniest little motion towards tyranny, to stop it, or at least do what I can to stop it, before it gets a chance to get too much of a foot hold.

But of course... they'll never take our guns...

Oh wait...

How long is the assault rifle band going to last after Obama is out of office?

I understand your aggression towards it and I don't blame you, but they still aren't knocking down your doors and taking your guns

           liberal babble

Bloviation is a style of empty, pompous political speech particularly associated with Ohio due to the term's popularization by United States President Warren G. Harding, who described it as "the art of speaking for as long as the occasion warrants, and saying nothing".[1] The verb "to bloviate" is the act of creating bloviation. In terms of its etymology, according to one source, the word is a "compound of blow, in its sense of 'to boast' (also in another typical Americanism, blowhard), with a mock-Latin ending to give it the self-important stature that's implicit in its meaning."[2]

I've observed that both sides of this argument tend to speak in extremes that are largely unsupportable and probably not specifically true.

I wonder how the people of Australia and England behaved as it happened to them?

I personally don't think it will happen quickly.  I think it will happen and along the lines of the frog in the water in the pot experiment.   really don't think as many of us who claim to will fight to the death over our guns.  They didn't in Australia, did they?

The Anvil

Serk, I was thinking that very thing this morning. Also, that it's being used as if the person using it just discovered it and thought it sounded cool. "Hmm, that word will make me sound smart." That person might also have very little self awareness because that person is kind of doing the exact same thing. Though we could probably all be accused of doing it when backed into a corner.

Willow, I will be the first to tell you that I am not willing to sacrifice myself for many causes. It's not about me either. I have a wife, two young children and a disabled mother who depend on me. I am not about to take arms against my government over things like drone spying, over taxation etc. I also believe that violence of any kind is an absolute last resort to solving conflict. Despite my fondness for firearms and shooting I am no hawk. But here's the thing; if they actually come to take my guns by force then that means things have gotten so bad in America that push has come to shove and shove I must. Please keep in mind also that I am far less trigger happy and extreme in mindset than most gun owners you will meet. But I am well armed and I am prepared.

With that said, I do not believe this is ever going to happen, at least not that way. If our guns are taken it will be through slow erosion of rights through legislation. I don't think it's going to be the Fed either. I think it's the vastly overrated State's Rights that we have to worry about. Check this out:

Wait....Vastly overrated...and in the same breath we have to worry about it? The disarming of this country, if it occurs, will be orchestrated by the federal government. Colorado, for example. State legislators there found out quick and fast that anti-gun legislation from the state level brings consequences to career politicians. Arms manufacturers and supporting ancillary businesses, along with the people, stood up and forced a recall on 2 anti-gun politicians and forced another to resign in order to preserve a liberal majority in the Senate.

Further, stereotyping "most gun owners" as "trigger happy" is, once again, another mantra spouted by the anti-gun crowd.

And Willow's "frog in the pot" analogy is applicable.

I don't "only" buy unregistered firearms. I have a few hand me down on the shelf (I figured most folks do.) The assault rifle band will be the same as in 1994, It will fade away again. Clinton didn't march into your homes and take anything away. The same will happen with Obama. I may be wrong, but isn't Dianne dumbass Feinstein and Carolyn McCarthy, the one that pushed for the band renewal in 2004, and 2013. Is it possible to permanently enact a band? probably so. Will it happen? probably not. The NRA will not let it happen. Sleep easy, it's the typical political parties that bounce this crap back and forth as leaders change in the oval office.

All gun band enactments started after some sort of mass domestic shooting. It's a political game to show the do gooders of America that the democratic party is doing something... it's a kiss-ass game. Has anyone on this board had to turn in a weapon to law enforcements yet? If you have please shed some light on the subject. I would actually like to know how you went through the procedures to have to do so.

I'm not sticking up for the President. I'm sticking up for calming the f**k down and trying to see both sides of an argument.

If you'd like an observation here's one for you; around here you cannot disagree with a line of thinking without being labeled a "liberal" or an "Obama lover" or some other epithet. I toe no line with regard to ideology and while there's a lot I don't like about this guy, I don't think he's Satan incarnate either.

And I had nothing to offer in his "defense" over his handling of the Syria mess.

P.S. I can't remember any thread that hasn't shed a negative light on the President.
