Look's like winter is gonna visit Dixie

For at least the next few days, those of us in the south who ride pretty much year round are going to have to take a break as it appears winter is headed our way, at least for a few days anyway.



I'm just glad to not be in Minnesota or some of the northern climes. I've done my time there and I'm glad to leave the winters with ya.

   C'mon up, supposed to be a high of 15 around the weekend. Next week in the 20s. You guys in the south need a break to wash and wax the bike anyway. I take the winter to fix / change things or spit polish the bikes.

Now that I have made it to my fifth decade, I wuse-out at 50*.  I ride for fun, and freezing my nuggets-off aint FUN anymore.

I can make it to around 40F but any lower and I'll ride but only for short distances. It's got to be warm enough for me to stay warm under my leathers for any long-haul stuff.

Got my Dec. ride in before the freeze. With the Santa Suit on too.

That makes it 34 months in a row I've ridden the bike at least once in the month.

Couple years ago I rode 2 miles to work at 7* just to keep the streak going.
We got a large contingent of Hispanic folks from down south. Their heads about exploded when they saw me roll in that morning. Those folks are almost allergic to temps below 35* LOL

Having lived in the great white north all my life, it's just second nature.
I'm 300 mi. north of the 49th. There is nothing better than taking my
cage out in the blowing snow storm and duking it out with the elements.

Yesterday a window of sun and 40F opened up , so I put on the heavy snow
pants, heavy jacket, winter boots, and gloves inside mitts, nice and warm,
took off on a long ride, never got cold. People thought I was nuts.

Looking at it from the other point of view, don't think I could put up with
the summer blast furnace that the southern people have to take.
A lot of southerners report on this forum that summer riding is too harsh.

I would be one of those I'm sure. About 80 and I start sweating. About 90 and I start whining. About 100 and I just go ahead and pass out.

Csj, I'm gonna hafta throw the BS flag on that one.  I could accept, "I can endure ..." or "It's not that bad ..." but the "There is nothing better ..." puts it definitely in the way overstated range or puts you in the very little experience with life category.

Willow, I'm the ONLY person I know, or have met that actually enjoys going out in the rain
on my Valk, or any other bike. I was out just last week in a rain storm in the mentioned
cold weather gear, with a rain coat on top.

I cannot hardly wait for a snow storm, so I can get out into it. I have decades more experience
than anyone who lives where Dorothy does, when it comes to snow. I've also ridden more times
in the rain this year than you have in the last ten.

But I'll not give you a harder time for those comments Carl, you've had a tough year.

It's not been so tough.  I'm still upright.

Some folks think I've got a lot of improving to go.  I'm pretty sure I'm about as good as it gets.

I'm sure that the mountains, especially the lee side, give you more
snow than you could want. I'm squashed in the middle of the
great lakes. There just aren't the big snow falls that once happened.
If there IS a big whack 'o snow, it's gone in a couple o weeks, dammit.

Getting back to the original post subject, I'll bet it'd be a scary/hairy
thing to watch when southerners are greeted by a snowstorm.

BTW...... mid 80's here this weekend. AND I consider here where I live at the 29th parallel to be "up north".
