Dad on dirt bike vs old man

Guy on the bike is a jerk. Old guy retires to a place in the country looking for quiet and peace and folks start screaming by on dirt bikes all day long.

A "hey I'm sorry. We didn't realize it was that annoying and we'll tone it down" was the thing to say.

Guy is a jerk and I'd bet his kid is not much better.

I'd have lost patience and not let him finish his rant. I guess I have something to work on.
IMO the solution to not let the kid ride past his house is the right one. The kid on the dirt bike shouldn't have to take the heat for all the other traffic the old guy is upset about. It's his first day on the bike and he's just learning to ride on a smooth safe surface. I'm sorry the old guy was upset but don't ruin the kids best ever birthday in the process. Glad they worked it out.

Neighbor kids rode their dirt bikes on our property in a place I didn't want them
to go, so I showed them another place it was OK for them to go...

We rode our dirt bikes all over the place in the woods near our neighborhood
when we were growing up... kids (who aren't hoodlums) deserve access to
stuff like that...

There is no way to ride a dirtbike around here without running on the road a ways, or hauling them. I don't mind the bike traffic on our gravel road, but, they won't just ride from place to place, they have to turn donuts, and dig deep furrows in the gravel. Most do not have ORV stickers and are not legal on the right-of- way as it is. In our county, off road vehicles are allowed right-of-way access, but, they must be stickered. (pay to state) I just wave at them, and if they are not stickered, I call the law. I has cut down a lot of tearing up of the road

I can identify with the old guy, but he also sounds a bit slurred in his speech. Wonder if he's been tipping the bottle a bit before all this. I had a problem with some guys running ATV's around a vacant field about 300 yds. away. Might as well have been in my front yard as loud as they were, and they would be out there all hours of the night and day...racing. I called the sheriff a few times, told them the property was posted "no tresspassing" and these guys were riding with impunity hours at a time. It was entirely fenced off but they had cut it down at the back of the field for access. I went out with a camcorder then sent it to the owner along with a letter from my lawyer neighbor...it bugged him too. The owner called the cops about it, they kept an eye on it and handed out a few tickets. The guys doing it were required to repair the grounds and fence, and replace the "no tresspassing" sign they had tore down. No more noise.

These were mostly adults, 20's and 30's, and would trailer in 2-3 ATV's for racing on private property. At one time I counted 13 running around out there, and watched a few times when they were actually organzing different races. As many as six vehicles with trailers were parked there somedays.

I had (remote) family moved way out in the boonies to get away from civilization.  A LONG drive on dirt and gravel just to get up on that mountain ridge (well beyond any zoning restrictions).  One of the few neighbors decided to open a motocross track on his large property, with lights for night riding.  The few other neighbors begged him not to do it.  When he went ahead, the neighbors (men) had a meeting, and drew blind lots to determine who would kill the man.  It never happened, but the man must have heard about it, cause the track closed in a few weeks.

Good points on both sides But the old man does not own that road so he should call law enforcement if he is having a problem and shouldn't take on himself to scold a kid.

  I would have agreed with the old man, EXCEPT, across from his house was a group of kids on dirt bikes and atvs. Looked like they had a whole course set up to ride.  So why not walk over to them, and bitch about the noise?    Old man should have stayed in the house, or gone after both problems.

I grew up in MI, from 4th grade Mark.

ALL my people on both sides are (were) WVa Mountaineers.  And Scots-Irish before that.

Coming from a guy that had a snowmobile trail on his property. I have to side with the old guy. If you want to act like a fool, do it on your own land.

Sounds like both were in the wrong sometimes people make a mountain out of a molehill.

I can say from this summer recent past experience for the most part these younger kids ages 15-25 mostly do ruin it for the rest by landowners shutting down atv trails nearby for going on private property doing stupid stuff and ruins it for the rest of us being legal.   the local fun trail hasn't been open since around June and sucks for us since was the only trail on private property that is actually fun to ride on nearby.

Our driveway is Gravel, there is a spot wide enough for the Garbage truck to turn around. We constantly have idiots on ATVs coming down the paved road getting into that turnaround and spinning donuts slinging gravel all over the grass. It pisses me off to no end. Most of the time you can't get out there to see who it is before they disappear. I went out once and caught the little bastards, they threw a chain and locked up the rear wheels. I went and got their father for them. 
He made them spend the afternoon picking up gravel and saying they were sorry.

I too, live in the stix. We get em every weekend and all day long. one kid was bein a show off and going reall fast. I dont care. I called him over and he was cool about it and said he didnt want to dust my house. Then I gave him a pair of old gloves and thought nothing more about it. About 3 hours later a pick-up pulls up in the driveway and its the kid and his Dad. Dd wanted to know where and how Jr. got the gloves and I told him the kid was a good dude and still went past my house,at a decent rate. Dad went away smilin big and Jr. must have spread the word a little.  I've tightened some bolts and given some oil and a little gas, but they go slower by my house.
Plus, I broke out the CR500R and got mucho cred.

I've been told that when I was a newborn infant that a bunch of kids on dirt bikes had decided to make a trail near the back of my parent's house and would zoom zoom by the room I was sleeping in all day and night.

After numerous times of little baby Serk waking up being cranky because of the noise, and my father having numerous talks with the riders, and nothing changed, it seemed my dad had a construction accident and somehow spilled several boxes of nails in the area by our house.

After a few flat tires, the kids on dirt bikes decided they liked riding on the trails a little further away from the house after all.

(Story obviously being relayed to me, I have no first hand knowledge or memory of said occurrence...)
