Went to the ER this morning. Have had abdominal pain for a week and it got really bad last night. Popped a rash too. Turns out I got shingles. WTF? Thought my giblets were blowing up. Hopefully antiviral meds will help. The Rx pain meds sure do... :coolsmiley:

Never had shingles myself but know a few people who had it. >:(
MD wanted me to get the vaccine but at $500 it's a tough sell.

Get well soon!

Thanks. There's a lot of questions about just how helpful those vaccines are.

Right now I'm thinking you would pay the $500.

It's a crap shoot. I get a flu shot I still get sick.....  Six days in the hospital this year.

Welcome to the club.  I got them a few years ago.  Once you've had the Chicken Pox (who hasn't), anyone can get them.  I went to my VA clinic to get a diagnosis (what the hell is this crap?), but no treatment of any kind, besides my own topical lotion.  Wrapped around one side of my chest in the classic pattern (the less lucky can get them around the side of the head, and into an eye).  For a few weeks the pain from just my shirt rubbing them was exquisite.  My own reading suggested it was from the intense stress of my job and failing marriage.  They have not come back (nor has my single kidney stone), and I hope it stays that way.  Disease sucks!!!!

Shortly after the injection-5 or 6 minutes-probably less time than that-very very light nausea did not upchuck but felt like I was sorts close and the nurse told me that was normal.  :uglystupid2: Other than that-absofrikkinlutely-NOTHING. Got on my Valkyrie after that and rode 160 miles home.  :cooldude: RIDE SAFE.

VERY painful. Thought the worst (cancer, spleen...). I got a pretty high pain tolerance so when I told the wife we needed to head to the er, she got very nervous. Had the abdominal pain for a week but the rash just popped up Friday.

QuoteHope you find some relief.

Right now it's called oxycodone... :coolsmiley:

Funny (not really), I had no early symptoms at all, until the rash, which also did not do much but itch at first.  I was wondering what I had got into, since I had not been working outside without a shirt. Then after a couple days it was like the rash was electrified to my nerve endings. Hurt like hell, but never any GI symptoms.  It is a bizarre disease with wide ranging symptoms and effects.  It has not come back in five years and I hope it stays that way.

I am a fan of Vicodin (when necessary), but watch out, it constipates like concrete.... which after the better part of a week creates it's own unpleasant symptoms.  Drink loads of water, for multiple reasons.

As Ron White the philosopher asked...... have you ever pooped so much it made your pants fit better?   Why yes I have Ron, thanks for asking.   ;D

Well, they may have fit better but they didn't smell very good.  :2funny:

Pain is as bad as being burned.

Not an idle comparison. I've had both.

My shingles came around my scalp, and also impacted my right eye. Eventually I will have to have a cornea transplant.

Get the vaccine.

Got my shot last year ( I was 65) no side effects. Got mine at CVS( GA.) through my insurance, free. They told me it would have cost me $250 if I had to pay. I know several people who have experienced the shingles and it was awful.I would advise anyone that had chickenpox, GET the vaccine.

musclehead

I got it at the tender young age of 14 or so (it's been a while ???) I only remember it hurt like fire, had a small patch over right kidney, and it hurt like hell-fire when my mom put some liniment (sp) 'for man or beast' on it. :o

I secreted that crap away in a shallow unmarked grave later that year
