Pingel valve for my '97 tourer

  I'm thinking about putting a manual pingel valve on my '97 Tourer but am not sure which one to get or what hardware I'll need to install it.All I want is a totally manual off-reserve- on valve.
   Anybody got any advise pertaining to this?

In da past, I have prolly bought,,,, 8 ish Pingles...  

Every time I just call em, give em the bike info n',,, let them decide, which one I need.

Only use Pingels for 22mm mounting bungs.
They are available in manual and vaccum operated styles.

I used the 1311 Pingle. Their website will give you the info when you check fitment. You need to realize that your reserve amount will decrease if you don't extend the tube. I believe you will need to add about 1 3/4". You can search this site to find more info about this.

Just went to the Pingle website. I did not realize that they sold so many products.

I like their slogan 'We Pass More Gas'. I thought my buddy had that distinction.

The shorter tube on the Pingle adds to the "ON" capacity and reduces the "RES" capacity?  Is that right?

Not much.  Check with John Schmidt in FL.  He extended the tube on his pingle to mimic the stock height of the petcock.  Gave him a more realistic reserve...

I wish I had measured mine before switching, but I didn't.

I recall the pingle tube was not as long as the OEM tube which is directly related to service.

I think saying the reserve is only 1/3 as much as stock is greatly exaggerated.

More likely the Pingle reserve will reduce the capacity maybe a quart of gasoline or 20% thereabouts.

The only true result would be to measure and then form the ratio.

Maybe some one has both and can measure the tubes.

Rick, I'm pretty sure the lesser reserve fuel on a Pingle is related to where the Pingle reserve pickup for reserve fuel is located in the screen, not the length of the screen/filter itself.  My opinion on the third was from what others have written on this forum, not personal experience.

All the concern over reserve capacity is over-rated.  No matter you long that tube is, you only have as much gas as you set out with at the beginning of the ride.  If you get 150 miles on a tank, you will still get 150 miles on a tank.  Pay attention, set the trip meter, get gas before you get too many miles down the road so you don't have to walk for it

Hey snakemiester.
I need a favor. I bought a pingle and there is a questionable  problem. When it is in off position I could still blow air through the valve.so i hope that liquid will not. Anyway. The favor is for you to do the same test and see if air can go through even though the valve is in off. THank

Someone said the exact same thing (blowing air) a while back about the Pingle.

They installed it and it worked properly.

Probably the test is insufficient as opposed to the valve.

And Chris makes a cogent point, you ought to know your bike well enough to not worry about running out of gas.

All I can say is that I've not seen a Pingle leak, and, I've checked.
As for distance, I set the trip meter at every fill up. At 150-160 miles I refill, reset and go and I've yet to switch to reserve.

 At 120 miles I look for gas. I did extend the tube on my new Pingle and not enough. Not even 1 gallon on reserve with the tube length currently. If you study the new valve and how it works the main gas is drawn off the top of the tank down through the tube. The reserve position opens the holes to draw off the bottom. I have only once had to go to reserve with this new valve set-up cause I did not pay attention to the trip odometer. I was about 2 miles from a station when it started to loose power and sputter so I stopped in. The bike took 4.6 gallons. The full capacity in the book states 5.3 gal. The book states 1.14 on reserve. On reserve I have about 3/4 of gallon or roughly about 20 miles based on 28 mpg average around town.

Chris is right. You need to know your bike and use that trip odometer.
