Share a favorite Christmas Memory.......

.....one of my fondest was when I was maybe 9-10.....I have a brother 2 years younger than me and Mama had wrapped us up each a present that was the same size......Mama was a meticulous wrapper, but I very carefully unwrapped them enough to figure out what was in them.....2 -18 Wheelers.....one was a flat nose with standard trailer.......the other was a long nose rig with a log trailer and logs......that was the one I wanted, but it had my brother's name on the tag.....I carefully wrapped them back like Mama had and then switched the name tags....... ......I'm not sure if my parents ever figured it out or not??...... .....I only told me brother many years later......

About 10 years ago, my middle daughter bought our family it's first DVD player to replace the outdated VHS tape player.
I went to the video store and grabbed the Chevy Chase "Christmas Vacation" movie on DVD and brought it home.
We watched it that night and laughed our rears off.

The next morning as I was backing out the driveway leaving for work, my oldest daughter, who was 18 at the time opened the door and was quite frantic.

The conversation went something like this:

Me: "Yes, Allison?"
Allison: "I need to take the DVD back to the store today!"
Me: "Ok, thanks for doing that.."
Allison: "Well, do I have to REWIND it?????"

As Art Linkletter used to say, "Kids say the darndest things!"

From when the wife's kids were between about 6-12 years old, I made sure to wake them up on Christmas morning. Usually around 4 am or so and always, found creative ways to torture, I mean awaken them from their slumber.

- No snow one year. Drove 50 miles at midnight up to the Ohio "snowbelt" and filled a 5 gallon bucket with snow. They got nailed with snowballs while still in bed.

- Hooked up a police cruiser siren to a car battery and set it off in their bedroom.

- Filled up coffee cans with about 50 firecrackers attached to one wick. Put screen over the top of the can and lit'em up. That one set off the smoke alarms (bonus!!!).

- A bucket of water for each.. poured on their heads.

- Banging pots and pans and screaming like a lunatic.

- Whipped cream pies to each of their little faces.

     

They are in their 20's now and still talk about it (usually while shaking violently).

Miracle on thirty fourth street. Saw it in black and white when I was a Y O U N G kid.  Still love the movie and will only watch the origional only in black and white.

my favorite christmas memory would be the year my bro got me up EARLY!!! real EARLY!!!  it must have been about 2 AM. last time we were together we looked at some old photos and it was the year we got "creepy crawlers"  in fact he had the pic of us showing the goods. I remember playing and I'd look up at the windows wondering when it was going to get light outside and go back to playing, and looking...... I remember mom making coffee looking like she got ZERO sleep....

when my Daughter was about 5 I bought her a HUGE stocking. she could fit in it at the time. my wife warned me not to buy it, too hard to fill every year..... she was right

My oldest from my first marriage-a girl-she was walking but can't rekemember how old she was-2 or 3. Anywho the wife and I bought her this huge doll-was taller than my daughter. Wrapped that thing up real purty like and waited for Christmas morning. Back then my daughter opened her presents WAY to neatly. Dad had to show her how to do it QUICKLY.  So as soon as she gets the wrapping off she can see what the gift is cause there is this big cellophane window in the box so you can see the doll. So Dad helps her with the lid she reaches in and gets the doll out-with Dads help-and she very carefully gets it to and on the couch. THEN she goes back and plays with the box!!!!  She played with that box until I threw it out like Jan. 12th or some such and cried her eyes out for a few days after I got rid of the box.  I was down there by her and she already had a daughter and she remembered that Christmas. RIDE SAFE.

I was drinking beer on Christmas Eve when I was in the Navy, in texas, on the beach.  After the LCB nabbed me.(I was 19, drinking age was 21) they turned me over to the shore patrol.  They took me back to the base and dropped me off at the barracks, instead of to the duty office for a write up. Probly saved me from being busted from a brand new promotion to PO3 back to airman.      Hoser

Christmas 1982 was one of my best...I was in the Royal Navy and we were Gibraltar guard ship. We were in harbour over Christmas and one of the guys who was based there flew home and let us use his house. Half a dozen or so of the wives and girlfriends flew out and cooked Christmas dinner for the whole mess. was a fantastic day.

That same Christmas we went ashore one night before Christmas, drank loads of beer and about a dozen of us got our hair dyed....I had a Union Jack in mine....we only got away with it cos it was christmas...

A different ship in 86, each mess was given £25 ($40) to decorate the mess....Captains rounds on Christmas day and he said that it didn't look like £25 worth of decorations to him, we said, that's cos we've eaten them sir!!!! We had a mess party the night before and had eaten the crape paper decorations, the dye was round our mouths for days!!!!

There is always a fridge full of beer on a British warship, US warships are dry I believe??
