Got out for a nice ride today.  A balmy 75*.  East a bit on I-10 then off south through Box Canyon to Salton Sea.

Area Description:(from BLM website)
Small, narrow steep-walled canyons wind throughout the Mecca Hills Wilderness, creating a natural maze within this badlands labyrinth. Sandy washes divide this area and contain stands of ironwood, smoke tree and palo verde, while scattered stands of ocotillo grow on the gentler slopes and mesa tops. Uniquely faulted and folded geologic formations are the result of the San Andreas Fault, making the Mecca Hills one of the most unusual geological sites of its kind in the world. Entire regions expose eroded layers of rock, providing important information to scientists about the impact of earthquakes on the earth's crust. Bighorn sheep have been observed crossing into the Mecca Hills from the Orocopia Mountains where they water. Prairie falcon, desert tortoise and spotted bat have also been seen here.

Here is a short video of a segment of the ride through the canyon.  Some great hiking in these canyons also.

Then out of the canyon into fertile farm land just above the Salton Sea.  Off back home then for almost 100 miles.  Nice!   :cooldude:

i really like the desert SW area, wife hates it, she says there's too much "brown".  although she does like the Flagstaff area of Arizona.

my utmost favorite area of America is the Bakersfield area of California.  right around Kings Canyon, gorgeous!!

Promote world peace, ban all religion.

Nice video Donald. And a nice area for a winter time ride. I was at Borrego Springs campground just last Friday night. I did a loop form El Caon up 79-78 and yaqui pass then back down to I10 via 78-86 by the Salton sea. Nice riding area.
