Of course the problem with creating a place for heated arguments like the Dumping Ground is that people then feel much more free to say and write things they should be ashamed of.

Re: chill out on the personal assaults....

An assault is an attempted battery (hitting), or putting someone in immediate fear of a battery (threat to harm...not merely verbally abuse).

To assault you here, I'd need to post (convincingly) that I was definitely coming to your house to punch your nose, or worse.

No one gets assaulted here.

Personal verbal attacks and insults is what we're talking about.

So get as animated as you want about the topic of the post, just don't call the other guy names.

IE:

Good:  Dude, your argument/point/position sucks because...........  :cooldude:

Bad:    Dude, you suck.

It would seem to me you are defining "assault" in real world terms.

I would suggest that the term "assault" in the virtual world would be appropriate as it relates to verbal attacks on message boards. Particularly those uncalled for or unnecessary. It is a different world. Slightly different social rules.

While we're cutting down on personal attacks, we may want to keep in mind that using such terms as liberals or rethiglicans to ridiculoe any group to which one of the members may belong will, and should be, taken personally.  Stating disagreement can and should be done without expressing disrespect.

One more thing, we can all be thankful this Christmas time for attorneys, or not.

Just kidding, Jess.   ;)

I don't classify Anvil as a lib, he has some attributes but a staunch supporter of the second amendment can't qualify as a true lib. I could be wrong.... :-X

Would you insult someone to thier face having a discussion at a bar? I think not. I think that keyboard courage have made alot of peeps more verbal because it depersonalizes the conversation or topic of discussion.

I love the ones that answer YES to this.  I can think of two one this board who have declared that everything they type here they would say to other ones face.  This is such B/S.  They're really just cowards.  That's what it all comes down to.

Sorry, but if you continue to vote into office the same anti-gun nutcases that continue to assault the 2A, you are NOT a staunch supporter. You're basically just another democrat with a gun.

Yep, I agree

old2soon

hilda beast and the ones she runs with have made "their agenda" perfectly clear. If you do not believe they have an agenda there is no way any of us-me included-that believe in our Second amendment RIGHTS can possibly help you. I hope and PRAY the believers in 2 A outnumber those that want to take it away from us. And not only believe in 2 A but VOTE VOTE VOTE to keep our country free. Otherwise EVERY single person that has fought and died for this Country have done so in vain. Myself-I DO NOT want to betray those that have fought and died for our freedom. Yeah-I'm waving the FLAG-and very proud to do so.

Ball buster wheelie, but look on the brighter side

"Ball buster wheelie"

BF, thanks for pointing that out, you are correct.    After watching that video clip at least a dozen times, I hadn't picked up on the wheelie part.   Gosh, I have no idea why I missed that.   Most likely because I was so concerned about the rider not being properly dressed for riding.   Ya know, ATGATT kind of concerned.   Yeah, that's it.

Yeah, it's a real shame that some folks can't get out of the Jr. High mode.
The personal and vile stuff really is uncalled for.

Political stuff is fine. Policy debate is fine. Speaking your mind is welcomed.

Calling fellow members names and worse isn't. If you got to do that you got to grow up.

Moonshot,

I agree... I have a 16 (soon to be 17) year old step daughter who is a far left liberal mind and can't keep her thoughts to herself and she thinks she is right ALL THE TIME!  I am a conservative who thinks you should earn what you get and that the gov't isn't here to create jobs, bail out private business, or even provide benefits to the citizens.  That should be handled in the private sector.  Personal thought, you are welcome to disagree but the problem I see is that just like many on here can't agree to disagree.  Rather they strongly believe that they are 100% right and they NEED to educate everyone that doesn't think that way.  It is a shame, (my opinion) that we can't agree to disagree and respect a person even if they don't believe the way we do.  Whatever way you believe you probably are not 100% correct so I just wish everyone would realize that they just might be wrong... Hell I could be wrong on how I believe but I at least listen and let them finish before interrupting them.  Nothing eerks me more than letting someone speak there mind (not interrupting them) then when it is your turn to rebut or to voice your thoughts they jump right on in and criticize you.  I have no time for a wasted discussion that I just mentioned.

As I told my daughter.  If you want to have diverse friends you have to understand that you are not going to convince everyone that believes differently than you that you are right and they are wrong.  You don't always have to "educate" if you don't believe they are correct.  You could be wrong too.    It's a shame that this has filtered down from ADULTS that can't get this concept down to our teenagers.   Or another example is when you talk to one of your employees about a behavior or correcting a situation and the first thing they say is "Well Johnny did..... da da da"   Just own up to your actions...

Our adults today can't even take criticism without pointing blame at someone else.  And here we b^6ch about our politicians.. Many citizens are the same way.  This is one reason why I don't post much on here is for this simple concept that continues to be an issue.

Completely understand Musclehead.

This quote is from the bible but even if you take just the concept w/o God in it.  It still makes sense.

But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
James 4:6

It's tough to be teachable when you are filled with pride.  If you are humble you are more willing to listen and therefore teachable.  At least that is probably the one thing that I have learned.

:cooldude:

BTW, my previous post wasn't directed at anyone in specific or for your post just something I wanted to share to all.

Yeah, I can't stand the folks who think they are right 100% of the time.

I'm only right 98% of the time and the other 2% I just thought I was wrong.

A woman i was once married to said to me, "Micheal," (She called me by my middle name), "your problem is you think you're always right."

I looked back at her quizzically.  "Of course I do.  If I thought I were wrong I would change my mind."  I really couldn't respect a man who held to an opinion that he thought was wrong.   ;)
