Hi Guys,

Hope you all had a good holiday.....and hopefully a break from work.

Just to let you know that my free non-profit site Bigbikemad is kicking the New year off with a Winter Gloves Review for those of you mad enough to ride is the cold (That's us then). We did 400 miles in these through some of the worst British weather I and Graham our Tester have ever ridden in. Fortunately we had some good kit.

You can catch the review here:

http://bigbikemad.com/two-of-the-best---revit-winter-gloves-test.html

Hope the new year brings good fortune and safe and happy riding to everyone. :cooldude:

If you want nice warm hands down into the 20's .... Gerbing Heated Gear... When you are standing there paying for them you are thinking " Damn " .... First ride you go on and start getting cold and you turn them on I have no doubt whatsoever you will say " Damn why didn't I do this years ago " .

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

Yup, Gerbings.  And a jacket liner too.  I think it adds two months to my riding season.  At 40 F you can run all day.

I left my house the day after Christmas for a 1,300 mile ride it was 26 when we rolled out.... If I didn't have heated gear the thought of riding out in that cold would have never crossed my mind.

I always hate to disagree with Joe and that's saying something because I usually could care less who I agree with.

I have a pair of Gerbing gloves.   I tried them for a while, but I just couldn't deal with the thought of being tethered.

I for one can ride well, well below the forties.  Gerbings would add no time to my "riding season" (Does riding have a season?  Of course I don't live in the frozen North.  ;)

Thanks for the review and posting !!

I am thinking hard about a set of hippo hands for the beemer.

As one who always has cold hands and refuses to put the bike away for any
length of time unless there is snow and ice on the road
its good to read about gear
that is both waterproof, supple and warm

Warm N Safe - they were the source for Gerbing until the latter reverse-engineered the controllers and outsourced them from China - thus ripping off WNS.  WarmNSafe engineers the products and Gerbing and others copy their designs and ideas and charge even more for them, while not supporting USA-sourcing.

I agree, electric heated gear is the way to stay warm.  Though it can be inconvenient with the wires, when you aren't cold it's worth it.  I have Widder, Gerbing, and WarmNSafe gear, several gloves and jacket liners and controllers - WNS is superior in quality not to mention ethics and Customer Service.

From WNS Q&A page:  http://www.warmnsafe.com/heat-troller-q-a/
Q. We heard that someone took one of your old designs to China and had it copied. It even has a bug in it. Is this true?

A. Is it a copy or a knock off? The Circuit is the same as our ver 6. The part designators are the same as on our ver 6 board. It has a flaw in the design so that if you have it turned off, but still plugged to power and ground the output, it will turn the LED on. This to us is a flaw. Maybe to others it is not but we replaced the Heat-trollers we sold with this flaw and only sold them for two weeks before we found the defect. We can provide you with the technical data that allows you to decide if it is a copy or a knock off. So, here is the test since now there is no other way to know if it is a Chinese knock off or not. Take the unit and plug it in to power. Turn it off. Touch the ground ring of the output connector to a frame ground like the handle bars or the metal tank. Does the LED turn on? Do you think it is OK for the LED to be on when the unit is turned off? If so then it is the Chinese knock off.

From WNS "Heated Clothing Facts": http://www.warmnsafe.com/we-invent-they-copy-why/

We Invent, They Copy. Why?

Let's look at our history. We have made every advance in this industry. Everyone else copies us. So who do you think makes the best products? Who motorcycles and who stands next to one?
Let's see what we have done and what was copied:
A list of items we developed that are now used by others in this business.

We made the first solid state controller that is now copied by everyone else in the business.
We developed an SAE connector that was not so tight it pulled over the bike.
Then we developed the resistance wire that when doubled over did not melt for guess who.
We were the first to use the auto style fuse with a waterproof cap.
Then we developed the panel system that kept the resistance wires separated.
Our first liner design had the stretch panels in them that we have become famous for now copied by at least two other companies.
We developed the coax connectors that most people use now.
We developed the pocket in the sleeve for the glove plug that you know who copied.
We then developed the zippered pocket in the sleeve for the glove plugs that have now been copied.
We developed the plug system so all our liners would be able to use single or dual heat-trollers, that someone copied.
We put a zipper in our liner just in case someone needed to get it to work on it and they copied that idea.
Our old controller design that most companies use is a copy of our old design relying on a thermal fuse or a current fuse to protect the user. Our new design does not. If you short or overload all the others they will die. Ours just turns off.
We have now started using the mini fuse in our battery harness and a real plug to seal the end of the connector.
We will have the first liner with safety features and the new heating system in the Gen 4. And I am sure that they will copy this.
The remote control heat-troller. You know they will try to copy that.
We were just at a Vendor show and guess who just copied our reverse polarity LED. It starts with a G!

A couple of years ago I bought a pair of John Deere gloves.

Wore them out and needed another pair.

Called my friendly John Deere dealer, former Valkyrie rider works there.

He told me about these new gloves John Deere came out with.

Had him send me a pair.

Got them and tried them out.

It is usually my hands that get cold.

The last snow fall we had with a severe cold streak,  my feet got cold 1st, and that is a 1st in my feet getting cold.

They work real good for me.   :cooldude: :cooldude: :cooldude:

I'd give ya the part # if I could find them.

I think my grandson never brought them back after he had to dig his Cougar out of the ditch.    I just set in the truck and watched.    His dad had a flatbed there to haul him home on.

He did a HUGE number on one of the rear suspension bars, so the rear wheels were not both looking forward.  Nuf said, his dad gave him a good ass eating.

But daddy will fix it and get it all back in shape at no cost to his son.

Kind of reminds me of someone else I know that way.    LOL.    :cooldude: :cooldude:

What's confusing? By saying he "could care less", he's saying he cares at least a little bit. If he didn't care at all, it would make sense for him to say, he "couldn't care less", but we all know that would be untrue, because Willow actually cares!

Yup, heated gloves are great. I've never needed them personally as grips do just fine, but they are ace at keeping the digits happy....

I'm planning to review gerbing sometime...If anyone wants to send me a short review of theirs I'd happily edit, add pics etc and post here and on Bigbikemad. All credit would obviously go to the author.

What are the cons? How much? etc etc...

Just a thought.

Hope all of yoos had a good new years eve by the way... :cooldude:

I have the full heated Gerbings jacket liner, gloves and pants. I ride into the 30's in December and back out in March as soon as the snow and salt is gone.

They are very expensive but I was lucky to find my jacket and pants used and the gloves used but never worn. Some have had quality issues but their warranty is second to none as far as I have heard.

Beyond wet, nothing worse than being cold while riding...... ???

Hedgehog

Yup, cold is not only unpleasant it can be darned dangerous too ..once your concentration starts to go its only a matter of time before you're saying "goodbye bike" and "hello scenery" .... :2funny:
