Shoulder replacement ????

  I am looking at double shoulder replacement and would like to know if any one out there has had it done , and would you do it again.  Short but sweet question!

   I've only had one done. The initial thought afterwards was NO! But in the long run "mine" was worth it. Don't think I'd do 2 at once, only one at a time. Get the one healed up and then see if you want to do the second. Just my suggestion.

Thanks for that update Hooter.     I've been told several times I need my left shoulder replaced.    Since I'm left handed, I have kind of stepped back and watched it go by.

I'm to the point now, the arm is almost worthless anyway, so if the Dr says do it, I'll have it scheduled.

Hooter is correct only one at a time. Have I had one done No but I have worked for an Ortho. Surgeon for the last 25+ years only joint replacement I would have done 2 at a time would be knees. For a Dr to do both shoulders at once would be cruel and unusual punishment.

  What kind of recovery time can I expect. I know everyone is different ( except for the Valks) , but just an average. My one doctor told me to stop riding motorcycles , so I did what I had to do!!!

As far as recovery like you stated it all depends on how tough you are and gotta keep a positive attitude.
First week or so will be HELL then according to which type replacement is done (there are several ways to do a shoulder) you will start to feel a bit better and along comes PT and you gonna swear you won't do the other  but in all seriousness you probably won't be holding the handle bars on you bike for several months.unless you are an animal.

My silly question is, why? Just wondering.  I've had a pain in my right shoulder lately but haven't had it checked out yet.

  Most Doc's want you to quit everything that "they" don't do. Good move anyway. Mine took 12 weeks before It was at the point where I finally said it was a good thing to have done. The first week- week and half I said never again. Someone said here depends on age / condition and the level of activity you have before surgery and that is very true.

  I am not a proponent of physical therapy but when it came to this I did what they said. The right therapist is gold in this situation. Oh, It will hurt when you go through therapy. Tell em if its unbearable but do as much as you can. Its to your advantage in the long run.

  raverez - I have had four shoulder surgeries due to injuries at work. The recent X-ray showed the shoulders wore out and the right shoulder was almost out of the socket. It is supposed to be a reverse shoulder replacement.

Yea.... I'm curious as well.   I have a torn rotator cuff on RT shoulder last year and PT helped it, but for some reason it's acting up this year.  Not sure if it is weather related or I need to do the PT exercises again. 

I'm not the pain pill type of person, for general aches and pains.... but I am considering taking some for shoulder pain (not sure what works best anyhow).

   I had the same one I had replaced done as a rotator cuff first. That was a 4 - 6 week gig.

  Do go and get it checked out. X-ray will show a lot , but it takes an mri to show most all of it. Mine started with a torn rotator cuff. Physical theraapy the first time. I then tore the ligaments off the shoulder (s) by contuining to work. Find a Dr. that does many , but remember ,Drs. make their living by operating , not therapy.
