A small plane landed on the northbound Major Deegan (that is 87, south of the Bronx/Yonkers line where its no longer called the NYS Thruway)

He landed on the uphill grade about a mile or so from my office.

I have met the fellow, lucky indeed that he landed right ahead of the emergency pothole repair crew

Ok so imagine you are riding along and a plane, with no engine noises puts down over your head

I was in the Whitehall area of Wisconsin, about 30 years ago, when a bi-plane sputtered over head, it's engine didn't sound right to me, and when we got into town there were several rescue vehicles heading out of town!  the plane was owned by the "Red Barron" pizza company!!  the pilot survived, but the plane was destroyed 'cause it crashed in the woods.  that's the closest I've ever experienced that sort of thing.
