The White House released a video on Wednesday assuring Americans that the extreme cold freezing the nation does not disprove global warming, that the U.S. is extremely cold because the planet is increasingly hot.

"If you've been hearing that extreme cold spells, like the one that we're having in the United States now, disprove global warming, don't believe it," warned President Barack Obama's Science and Technology Advisor, Dr. John Holdren. "No single weather episode can either prove or disprove global climate change."

"A growing body of evidence suggests that the kind of extreme cold being experienced by much of the United States as we speak is a pattern we can expect to see with increasing frequency as global warming continues," said Holdren. "I believe the odds are that we can expect, as a result of global warming, to see more of this pattern of extreme cold."

Dat come from deception central GOTS to be true!! Sarcasm Intended.  :cooldude: Saw something on one of my P B S stations and a group of scientists were leaning towards cyclical weather patterns. Tree rings and stuff found in the sedimentary layers were steering them towards the cyclical explanation. Weather and climate are two different things. In Australia there might be some disagreement with the whole notion that global warming is a hoax. Not being a climate scientist I won't pretend to know what the truth of the matter is but my lack of expertise in this area isn't a good enough reason for me to discount that it may exist.

Of course, since we all know that ABC News is simply a tool of the Lame Stream Media (insert gentle sarcasm font here) this link to the AccuWeather website may help provide some corroboration (if not of the possibility that global warming isn't a hoax at least that there is another half to the planet we live on). http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/record-setting-heat-wave-in-au/21789651

Weather is cyclic. Always has been, probably always will be. We are still coming out of 2 ice ages, the biggie of 10K years ago and the 'Little ice age' of the 14th century.
The sun has reached its half life and sun spots and solar flares are more erratic because of it. Our solar filter is the earths magnetic field which is naturally decreasing allowing more of the 'bad' 'evil' rays from the sun to reach us which means earth is about to experience its normal 500,000-750,000 year pole reversal.
There are reports from Cortez's rampage thru south California in the 16th century in which the LA basin was referred to as 'The Valley of Smoke'.
Tree ring and ocean floor core and soil/rock samples have shown weather changes over the centuries that are far more dramatic than today and that the water and air were far more polluted at times than today. Seems like the term climate change may be appropriate just because climate does change, thats its job. JMHO and I'm sticking with it.

Not necessarily in Australia.  ;D
However, it is probably likely that in Boquete, Panama where I will be spending the first two weeks of February, next July it will be warm and rainy and next December it will be warm and not so rainy. Or maybe the other way around.

The gov has a vested interest in the validity of global warming without it there is no rational for ethanol, electric cars, all the money that disappeared for fuel conserving technologies that the gov has lost. Anyone interested in some solar panels  >:( ? Also with the fact that we are now a oil exporting country it would be pretty hard to justify not lowering the price of gas and building new refineries. A totally opposite stance from the truly financially wasteful global warming mind numbing green movement.

Even our area of the country is being inundated with solar and wind farms. I don't have too much of a problem with them, but, they sure look like hell. All these 'green' energies will only produce 2% of our needs.
And, what I don't understand [ Im not too bright] is the exportation of our gas and oil. I'm all for fracking and drilling. This is fracking country and I've looked into this and the contamination complaints. The complaints are unfounded and the procedure is as safe as such a procedure can be. The trucking/construction companies that have converted from diesel to natural gas have proven to be successful and eventually economical. But, what now irritates me is that the gas companies want to export to europe. I'm a believer that oil and gas from this country should stay in this country.

I totally agree with you but until the gov stops the commodities markets on essentials and the stops the oil and gas companies control of the gov then we in the US will continue to get raped by the prices that are charged. Not to mention now we cannot even stop the ethanol production and integration into the gas supplies even though it has been proven to be a farce at best and damaging at worst because of the billions of dollars that it brings some in. It should be a good example of how corrupt and inept this gov is both past and present ones included. This is also the same with some of the green technology. its a good way to drain the coffers of the gov while buying votes.

Climate Change is the catch all phrase used continue the redistribution of America's wealth.  We sent 7.5 billion to other countries to help them go green.  Do you really think that money made it to it's intended destination?  Just like all that money that went to Arafat went to the Palestinian people, right?

Couldn't that 7.5 billion have been used to help the folks here at home?  The folks that the Dems exploit.  No, instead Dems propose benefits and aid that are unpaid for, then cry that the Repubs are terrorists and are holding the citizens hostage.

Not only that the Wind farms cannot support themselves, and require massive subsidies to keep in operation.  Its another crony capitalization scheme that funnels tax dollars to the administration supporters.

I find it rather interesting that while the current regime is using the EPA, Endangered Species Act, and every other piece of the government's over-extended powers to stifle real energy production (Keystone pipeline, for instance), the wind farm industry gets a pass to kill all the Bald Eagles they want for the next 30 years...

I'm thinking the last paragraph of the cited news stories can possibly be interpreted to indicate the current regime hasn't exactly issued a free pass to the wind farm industry to kill all the bald eagles they want for any amount of time. And the tone of the entire story indicates this proposal is under consideration rather than a done deal.

Fact 2:  There is no question that global warming is occurring, and that will continue to get warmer.

OMG ! We can agree on one thing. We are leaving our kids, grandkids, great grandkids and great great grandkids with a hell of a mess. Thats for sure.
But, it has nothing to do with climate change !

..

On NPR yesterday they had a piece explaining that the Govt needed to continue subsidies for wind farms because wihtout them the industry would collapse.

As to the like of the great con artist Al Gore I'd love to see his explanation of previous cold/warm cycles over the millenia.

Remember when Krakatoa popped its top and the earth underwent climate change. Nothing man made.

Remember that a large percentage of the weather monoring equipment was placed on runways and other exposed areas and giving false readings that global warming was based on.

Remember Al Gore bought an ocean side mansion in Malibu despite his DIRE predictions of oceans rising.

Remember that Al Gore like to fly by private jet despite his please for less air travel.

Remeber Leonardo di Caprio stating he was willing to fly anywhere to help- promote the global warming cause.

Remember Al Gore making millions on carbon offset trading.

And so on and so  on until it makes you sick with the hypocrisy.

Why did the last Ice Age that had glaciers down across the northern USA and Europe fade away?

Too many cars and other pollutants warming the Earth?

If there's such a strong case for global warming WHY are so many countries still building coal fired power stations? The very countries we have given OUR TAX PAYER $$$$ to to fight global warming.

And so on and so  on until it makes you sick with the hypocrisy.

I posted a link too soon without looking more. The rule was implemented.

Here's a piece from those right wingers at the Audobon Society... ;)

http://www.audubon.org/newsroom/press-releases/2013/interior-dept-rule-greenlights-eagle-slaughter-wind-farms-says-audubon-

And some more drivel from the Tea Party Extremists at the National Wildlife Federation:

https://www.nwf.org/News-and-Magazines/Media-Center/News-by-Topic/Global-Warming/2013/12-06-2013-Interior-Dept-Wind-Permit-Rule-Insufficient-to-Protect-Eagles.aspx

And the actual press release from the Department of the Interior itself:

http://www.doi.gov/news/pressreleases/interior-department-releases-revised-rule-to-ensure-long-term-monitoring-and-protection-of-eagles-while-facilitating-renewable-energy-development.cfm

Now note, I'm not totally against this action, it actually makes sense. But what bothers me is giving the "green" energy companies a pass while going out of our way to harm real energy companies in any way possible. THAT is where my problem lies.

If wind farms can slaughter Bald Eagles, than oil should be allowed to spend their own money to build the Keystone Pipeline.

Patrick

Lets just look at one of the last weather changes. Even wayne h could look into it easily if he wanted to.
The Little Ice Age of the 14th century.
The 10th-13th centuries showed the warmest time period in history, 8-10ºF warmer than today, which spawned some of the greatest accomplishments ever.
Then early in the 14th century, 1320-1340, the temp dropped 20º within about 20 years. That greatly impacted all of Europe and even this country once it was being populated by us 'English' immigrants. New England went through the 'years without summer' [1815-16] in which people died by the thousands when their crops failed and it snowed every month of the those years. [why is that not in our school history books, but, then, they still have Columbus discovering our country]
The really really smart guys claim we have just come out of that ice age and the average world temp has not changed over the last couple decades.
How many billion dollars has gore, and his minions, made made from this scare ? Rhetorical question.

New NASA Data Blow Gaping Hole In Global Warming Alarmism ... from Forbes magazine
NASA satellite data from the years 2000 through 2011 show the Earth's atmosphere is allowing far more heat to be released into space than alarmist computer models have predicted, reports a new study in the peer-reviewed science journal Remote Sensing. The study indicates far less future global warming will occur than United Nations computer models have predicted, and supports prior studies indicating increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide trap far less heat than alarmists have claimed. There is a huge discrepancy between the data and the forecasts that is especially big over the oceans."
In addition to finding that far less heat is being trapped than alarmist computer models have predicted, the NASA satellite data show the atmosphere begins shedding heat into space long before United Nations computer models predicted.

If you consider who is pushing this warming agenda you dont have to go much further than type it into a search engine and see who are the first results that come up. I highlighted the first selections in order, just the people you would trust, (sarcasm font not found) Now NASA is finding global warming a farce also because of its satellites.

I guess my question is how is the uneducated population aware that global warming is a farce and A government is not? OH wait, O never knew about Benghazi or the tax scandal or the rest so now that makes perfect sense. While some boo hoo conspiracy theories its really amazing that in the results of the search are the very ones that are the ones in question from these theories. I guess its just coincidence.

alright here's my shot at de-bunking.

all of the so-called experts site carbon dioxide as the culprit causing global warming. Ok, how can an odorless, invisible and inert gas affect the temperature of the earth when your talking about concentrations of 390 ppm.  (here is a little math)  that's 390 divided by 1,000,000.  so that calculates to .00039 or rounded off to .04%.  That's 4 hundredths of 1 %.  but wait,  the actual increase since industrialization, (driving cars and burning fossil fuels) is about 100 ppm . which means all of the problem is caused by a .01 percent increase in CO2.  I just don't believe it!!! and even if I did, what could anybody do about it?  even the entire planet reduced their CO2 output by 50% ( meaning half as many cars and half as much power production), according to the math that wouldn't stop the rise of carbon dioxide levels. Just slow it down for a little while.  :uglystupid2:  So just get out and enjoy the RIDE.

If you truly believe there really is such a thing as global warming, then you also will get free insurance thru the aca and live happily and comfortably in your effortless life.

Good luck with that.....

Please advise when you sold your bike, car, and any other petrol/electrically powered piece of equipment. Unless you have installed solar panels which were made in this country. If made in China then your carbon footprint grew instead of shrinking.

Since catalytic converters have come on the scene emissions from cars eliminate over 99% of carbon monoxide produced. Now to eliminate the other 1 percent is a monumental task in terms of engineering and cost. You can breath what comes out of the tail pipe of a car without to much problem. The idea of cars emitting green house gases such as carbon dioxide is a problem why? Converters were designed to convert toxic gases into co2 as a by product, Think there is a problem here? We as humans exhale that same gas. So is it the cars or are the tree huggers really against the population of the earth and using this as a cover. Trees take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen that is how God made the earth. This is the green house gas that they are saying causes global warming, the exhaling of humans, animals or the farting of cows is a significant contributor. This is the agenda of the globalists to decrease the population to help mother earth from suffering. We are being bled dry financially and regulatory wise by all this when we are talking about a naturally occurring gas. Remember holes it the ozone, wonder why you never hear about this any more? Because the ozone is doing just fine contrary to scientists doom and gloom predictions. The weakening of the ozone layer, which protects the earth from ultraviolet radiation from the sun, has stopped and ozone levels have started to rise. So why are we still encountering more and more regs, fines and harassment?

Wayne H said we dont understand the problem or significance of global warming so here is a brief explanation so we can be informed as a group.
A greenhouse gas (sometimes abbreviated GHG) is a gas in an atmosphere that absorbs and emits radiation within the thermal infrared range. This process is the fundamental cause of the greenhouse effect. The primary greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. Greenhouse gases greatly affect the temperature of the Earth; without them, Earth's surface would average about 33 C° (59 F°) colder than the present average of 14 °C (57 °F).

Most of these gases are emitted by humans animals and plants but see the temp difference 2 degrees projected not a fact just supposition.

Should that also be the same for all countries?

If so, we would not be able to IMPORT any oil.  Because no country could EXPORT any of their oil.

Sometimes it is cheaper to export from one coast, and import on another coast, than it is to ship it across the country, because the greenies will not allow us to build enough pipelines to move it.

We should be able to export but not at the cost of sending cheaper oil to other countries so companies can make a huge profit at the cost of the US population. This includes speculation on the commodities markets. All while we import foreign oil and give away our Alaska land to Russia that also had a huge reserves on it. We have not even touched on all the US reserves that are available and we are actually dropping our consumption of oil also. If we stopped the import of foreign oil today I have heard we have something like 200 years just on a couple of fields.

I've done a lot more studying than just looking up your assertions, and if you look at vetted climate sites like http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2004/12/temperaturevariations-in-past-centuries-and-the-so-called-hockey-stick/ you'll see that those events in no way cause global warming to be false, and actually provide additional evidence that global warming must be man made.

And since the mere mortal Britman has asked that it be explained in terms that his mind can grasp, I'll try it this way.  Imagine putting a pot of water on the stove, Britman, then lighting the burner.  What happens?  As the water gets hotter and hotter the the currents and eddies in the water become stronger and stronger.  This is exactly what is happening to the earth's atmosphere.  You can expect more, and more severe, storms of they type that just happened as global warming progresses... and there is no doubt that it is progressing.  The evidence is overwhelming except for those who choose not to see.

98 percent of climate scientists believe their data points to global warming.  Why do you think the 2 percent are correct?

Regardless of the NASA article:

a)  Temperatures are rising, and at a rate much faster than almost any point in history.
b)  Carbon dioxide levels are far higher than at any point in the last 800,000 years and continue to rise rapidly.
c)  Sea levels are rising, again, rapidly... 50 to 100 years to inundate low lying areas like most of Bangladesh, and the Louisiana coastal areas.
d)  Ice at the polar caps and in the glaciers is disappearing at an unprecedented rate.

To say that global warming is not real is to willfully ignore the facts that are present in many, many different sciences.

Get back to me in 20 or 30 years. I'm pretty confident you'll be buying the beer.

I'd be interested in knowing why you are so sure that global warming isn't real, when the vast majority of climate scientists have a different view.  What is you factual basis for your assertions?  How do you explain the phenomena (melting caps and glaciers, rising temps, rising sea levels, rising carbon dioxide levels) if global warming isn't a fact?  What is making this happen?

I guess my question is how is the uneducated population aware that global warming is a farce and A government is not? OH wait, O never knew about Benghazi or the tax scandal or the rest so now that makes perfect sense. While some boo hoo conspiracy theories its really amazing that in the results of the search are the very ones that are the ones in question from these theories. I guess its just coincidence.

A. Wrong, look at historical facts.
B. Wrong,           "
C. Wrong, at least not where I hang around. Been hanging around the beaches in the northeast and south Florida for 6 decades and they haven't moved. Some shorelines in my home area of the great lakes have moved, but, not since the glaciers receded.
D. Try to convince a certain 75 people of that.

Climate will change, I'll say it again, thats its job, it has to do it. Temp changes are part of that. Look it up.

Your not going to change your mind regardless of what the facts show. And , you're not about to change my mind. I'm looking forward to you buying me a beer.

Yep!  That banning of R12 closed that Ozone hole up in just a couple of years.  Nobody made ANY money producing R34a and converting almost the entire auto population in the country over to it.  All I know is that Ozone hole is closed up tighter than a ...,well pretty tight.  How do I know that?  Because our fearless leaders are no longer beating us over the head with the hole in the Ozone layer (although they are banning the propellant used in inhalers, just to be sure).

I have full confidence in our leaders and their unending concern for our well being, all while they sacrifice so the rest of us can enjoy the fruits of our labors.  It really does give me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

excuse me while I throw up.

Global warming is a farce and anyone that believes in it or that it is caused by humans and still uses "recreational" fossil fuel vehicles is a bit of a hypocrite. :tickedoff:

I find it rather interesting that while the current regime is using the EPA, Endangered Species Act, and every other piece of the government's over-extended powers to stifle real energy production (Keystone pipeline, for instance), the wind farm industry gets a pass to kill all the Bald Eagles they want for the next 30 years...

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/dec/6/obama-issues-permits-wind-farms-kill-more-eagles/?page=all

I heard it was a 10 year waiver, if it's not I'd sure like to see it.

as a private citizen don't even accidentally kill a bald eagle, prison would be in your future.

but hey, wind farms can chop all the raptors they want. they have been for years. :crazy2:

have you seen any charges brought up for wind farm operators for killing a golden or bald eagle?

I don't think I've ever seen the left give up on an idea once they want to ram it through to their satisfaction.

The biggest issue I have with the warmists is that they are absolutely convinced that it is a fact and that there is no room for doubt.  They are so hard over on their facts that anyone who dare offers an opposing view must be ridiculed.  To me, that takes it out of the realm of science and makes it more like religion i.e. it must not be questioned.  One of the tenets of the scientific method is that one way to prove something true, is to prove the converse false.  Not so with global warming.  Unusually hot weather, its global warming, unusually cold weather, it must be global warming, unusually small amounts of sea ice, yup, global warming, ice packs larger than previous years, you guessed it.  I'm not saying its not happening, or that it is, but there's room for doubt.

Good to see that your rational explanation is couched in relevant scientific terms.

You say, "wrong, wrong, wrong" but have nothing to back up you assertions.  Fact is temperatures are rising.  Fact is, carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing.  Fact is that polar ice sheets and glaciers are decreasing.  Fact is that ocean levels are rising.  You could Google this information but then again it would put you into a state of serious cognitive dissonance as facts would seriously collide with your preconceived and unsupported positions.

"Hanging around a beach" isn't science, it's useless empirical evidence.   Looking at images readily available on the internet... glaciers, ice caps, iceberg calving, shows physical evidence of what is happening.

And if you could actually drag yourself into the science instead of listening to turds like Rush, you might actually learn something.

You are wrong on this, and history will prove it to be true.  Unfortunately, as a result of inaction on global warming, we are faced with large outburst of violence due to large numbers of people whose already sustenance living will be obliterated by the effects of global warming.  It's already happening in the sub_Sahara... it's already happening in South Asia... and it is only going to grow.

Again, show me some evidence that global warming is not occurring.  Not the 2 percent that rail against global warming... something that explains what is happening now.
