Cell Phones for Soldiers -- Anybody know about this?

The wife and I, I'm sure like most here, have a number of old cell phones laying around and we've run across this site to where you can turn your cell phones in and give something like 60 minutes of free talk time to a soldier.

Sounds like a good plan, but my concern is we constantly are hearing that the al-quada a$$es use cell phones to detonate roadside bombs.

I'm not sure what happens to the phone once it gets to this company and I damn sure don't want it to fall into the wrong hands and cause harm to any allied soldiers by these d!ckheads!
I'd just as soon take them out to the gun range for target practice.   (including the d!ckheads...)

Has anybody used this charity or know if it's legit?

I've gotten on their web site (cellphonesforsoldiers.com)and it seems alright but did catch an anomaly. The site claims they have a 4-star rating by a "charity checking" group and it is only a 2 star rating. (maybe it changed since it's conception)

Or what other options are there to do with the old phones that may benefit?

It seems going through this company (or like company) is better than just giving it back to a provider, or sticking in a drawer and forgetting it (and then throwing it away after a few years).

Few months back on Channel 4 Detroit TV, they had a segment on security and recovering info from cell phones.  They got this guy that specialized in security, take a old call phone and recovered the data that was deleted several years before. They contacted the person that owned that phone, who, cleared and deleted and  turned it in a few years before and they showed him a picture of his daughter, and ask him if the SS# shown was his, which was correct. Then they showed the best way to turn in the phone, which they showed a truck running over the phone.
