don't feel bad,  there was a guy at work named Jesus Valle.  I was asked by a fellow dock worker to call him over the loud speaker to go to a certain location in the warehouse.   I said Jesus (like the God), not 'Heysus' pronunciation.  That was a good laugh had by all except me.  
LOL - means Laugh Out Loud or Lots Of Luck or ?????????

English will be the 2nd language probably in our lifetime with #1 Spanish, just wait and see.

I recently read where 13% of our population speaks spanish. So, of course, it only would stand to reason that we would cater to that in an attempt to become a 2 language country.
Why then, since the black population also makes up 13% of our population are we not trying to become a 3 language country ? It would only make sense and it must be just another form of discrimination against them. Whats the name of that language they want ? Oh, ya, ebonics isn't it.
Didn't our ancestors do what was necessary to fit in and become 'Americans'. Seems like learning the kings english was part of that.
Personally I'm not worried, or about to, learn those languages. I don't really want to have to learn chinese.

I think the original post was regarding the use of letters instead of actual words, such as BTW as meaning "by the way". in that respect, I agree, learn how to WRITE English!!   I was leaving a store several months ago, and on the pop machine were the letters "M-T" I guess the writer wanted others to know that the machine was not dispensing soda's because they thought the machine was "empty" of it's contents.....  needless to say, I also noticed that the electrical cord was pulled out of the wall, so either it is out of pop, or someone was trying to save energy......  none the less, it wasn't until I got home before I realized that the letters "M-T" was meant to say "empty"!!

as for the people that think immigrants should all be forced to learn English, what makes you think they don't speak English?  what makes you think that they don't understand EVERY WORD YOU'RE SAYING?  my parents were from Italy, they had to learn the English language, and they did.  my father had a parking ticket once and his attorney friend told him to just act like he didn't understand English, and the judge threw out the case!  so ACTING like you don't understand is an excellent way to get out of something!!  heck, my boss doesn't think I know anything, so he doesn't ask me to do things I don't want to do, so acting stupid isn't a dumb thing to do!!

ever notice if you go to a border Mexican town, all the store merchants speak English!?!  it's 'cause they want to do business with you, to make money off of you.  so, why wouldn't they speak English up here?
