Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their
days interesting. Well, for example, the other day my wife and I went into
town and went into a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When
we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to
him and said, "Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?"



He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi turd.
He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires.
So my wife called him a sh...head. He finished the second ticket and put it
on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket.
This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets
he wrote... Personally, we didn't care. We came into town by bus and saw
the car had an Obama sticker... We try to have a little fun each day now
that we're retired.. It's important at our age.

Always get a chuckle out of that one. A couple weeks ago, my resident bed warmer and I were in downtown Winter Park and enjoying a gelatto at a sidewalk cafe. I had earlier tried to find a handicap parking spot nearby but it was taken up by some clown driving a Maserati just as we drove up. I rolled down the window and asked him if he had a HC tag since he didn't have a HC license plate. He answered with some profanity, said he owned the fancy restaurant where he was sitting(not so, it turned out) and to mind my own business. A few minutes later while we were sitting there with our treat(not his restaurant), a cop strolled by so I stopped him to chat about the HC parking across the street. I asked if the price of the car determined whether he had access to the HC spot, he smiled and without turning around to look said "I'll bet it's a baby blue Maserati." Yup! He then reached for his ticket pad and added "a couple more of these unpaid and the city will own that fool's fancy ass rig." As he was writing the ticket the owner came storming out and started yelling at him. The cop just looked up in our direction and smiled....and kept writing. A few days later I learned from the owner of the spot we had our little gelatto treat; the Maserati guy was given something like five days to pay up or be subject to a warrant. He paid. Now, if I see him on the street I give him a friendly wave. He usually waves back but needs to learn how to use all his fingers, people might mistake his wave as a sign of IQ.

Most of the business's here have H/C parking spots so indicated by the blue backround and a yellow wheel chair. One would think that would be enough but one would be incorrect. Our little piece of paradise here in the Ozarks have NO fine for misuse of said parking space!! West Plains Mo.-22 miles south-does have a fine for misuse of H/C parking BUT RARELY enforced.  It pains me to see people show up that need the H/C parking but CAN NOT access because some non thinking Neanderthal believes he or she needs it. If you do need that H/C parking-get the permit. I believe first time offense should be $1000.00 and then double for each following infraction!! And keep doubling. Wishful thinking at best. RIDE SAFE.

This is sort of HC related.  We went to Ryans for breakfast after church today.  For those that dont know its a buffet style chain restaurant.  Right in front of the entrance there is a huge concrete slab.  It is not marked for any type of parking, but since the rest of the lot is very soft asphalt motorcycles have been parking on the cement "forever" and no one complains.

Well, we (3 bikes) show up today and there is a car with a blue HC parking tag on the rear view mirror taking up half the slab.  No sweat really we take up the other half.  The car is parked with its nose facing out and we stacked in from the tail of the car back so it could leave straight ahead no problem.
BTW there were ALL the designated Handicapped spots open, but they were 10 feet more away from the door.

This older woman approaches me as Im taking off my helmet and says "so you are just going to park there"  Like how dare we

She came back with "Im not sure I can get out"  Well we knew she could and we all said at the same time.....the handicapped spots are all open.  She got in and left no problem and would have probably shown us the were number one sign if it wasnt Sunday right after church.  lol

Thing that bothers me about HC parking is someone driving someone else's car with a HC tag and not a damn thing wrong with them and parking there just because. I give people temporary HC parking applications if their injury warrants it. But plainly stated on the application in Alabama it says if a person can walk 200 feet unassisted they don't qualify,so nearly all don't qualify if they make it out of parking lot into the office to see the DR.

In California and Iowa, the HC spots are NOT patrolled.    The owner of the establishment they are in front of, HAS TO CALL it in.     Otherwise it does hold a chance of being fined otherwise.

99% of the store owners don't want to lose income (sales) so they go ignored.

If ya no like the situation, contact your state legislature to change the law.   OH yeah, good luck on that also.

  I've seen handicapped people arguing over a HC space.
  I've seen people run out of their cars and in the stores while I limp my way through the store.
  When I would drop my handicapped mother off at the door of the clinic she would often ask me why I don't park in a HC spot.  She got dropped off and picked up at the door.  Just because the car had a tag doesn't mean you have to use it. 
  If I applied for a HP tag I could probably get one.  I don't want one. Maybe I'm too proud but I always think there's someone more handicapped than me.

Here in this wonderful liberal state of New York I know of one county that women get a hc tag if they complain about having Pam's. No joke..

Ok, I know PMS.  I don't know about handicapped parking for it, but really it would be a good idea if there was like a required radiation badge, that turned red.... so we could run and hide.

I'm not sure if that would come under EPA, CDC, or Homeland Security, but with the beloved G pumping out books of regulations daily, you wonder how they missed it.

I knew a guy years ago who kept toothpicks in his car.  He would shove one in the drivers side key hole and break it off.  With all the key FOB's in use today, they'd never know.

The wife and I both have HC cards. They punch little holes in them by month and year when they expire.
When I got mine after hip replacement I was showing it to my then 9 year old grand daughter she asked what the dates and holes were, I explained and she asked if that was when I was going to die.

   I believe we create all these problems with these type of laws and exceptions. Most people with handicaps that I know personally don't want to be treated differently. One friend in particular had polio as a child and his body clearly took a beating. He has never had a special tag or card for his car. He worked at a lumber yard I managed for 20 years, and I expected the same or "equal" performance from him as I did all the other employees. He expected the same and I must say everyone quickly forgot about his "handicap" after being around him for just a few days. In truth I never would have called him handicapped because he never let his deformities interfere with his daily life.

  I constantly try to not judge those who I see parking in those spots, and sprinting into the business. All kinds of reasons for people to do what they do. The only real reason for having special parking to me would be for handicapped equipped vehicles that need the extra space to operate.
