Farm Bill Removes Subsidies for Biofuel Blender Pumps

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation reports that the United States House of Representatives has passed a bill that would end a federal subsidy for biofuel blender pumps in rural areas. The measure passed by a vote of 251-166 and costs the U.S. taxpayers $956.4 billion.

The Senate is expected to vote on the matter next week and there is little that those in support of the subsidies can do to reinstate the money. President Obama is expected to sign the legislation into law.

Putting an end to these subsides will likely result in less biofuel blender pumps in the market place and therefore less E-15 fuel.

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation supports the removal of E-15 from the market until thorough, scientific study is conducted on the effects of the higher blend on the entire power train, not just the tail pipe emissions.

My small engine repair guy will be disappointed.  He has been kept busy repairing lawnmowers, snowmobiles, weed whackers and motorcycles.  Most have seal damage and carb varnishing from the use of that corn crap.  Someone did not study the effects very well, or they did and ignored the evidence.

The farm bill will cost taxpayers about $950 billion over the next ten years. The largest part of this spending is not for farm programs but for food stamps. The bill provides approximately $756 billion in funding for food stamps.  Any serious attempt to reform the program by, say, reinstating work requirements was dropped. Is it any wonder that the Department of Agriculture reports that a record 20 percent of American households now receive food stamps?

Moreover, the 949-page bill is packed with pork and giveaways to favored groups.

For example, the bill includes $1.5 million in funding this fiscal year to strengthen and enhance "the production and marketing of sheep and sheep products in the United States." It also creates a National Christmas Tree Board, funded through a 15-cent tax on every Christmas tree sold. The bill maintains the Department of Agriculture's $17 million per-year catfish-oversight program, even though the Food and Drug Administration has a nearly identical program (which costs a mere $7 million a year!). The Department of Agriculture will also be establishing new federal standards for "the identity of honey." Apparently even bees are helpless without the federal government.

While I won't miss bio-gas, me and my truck will sorely miss bio-diesel if it is affected. A blend even as low as B5 has proven time and again to be better for injectors and fuel systems than any of the additives available on the market.

Alcohol is not good for metal, or rubber, or plastic parts.

Sooner it is gone the better.

Natural Gas would be much better alternative and does not corrode the engine parts.

Natural gas ?  I agree, the stuff works.  We need to increase our fracking. Engines have been run for years on natural gas and those that have recently converted their diesels to it are doing good.
