A former neighbor used to have one, used it very effectively on a scoundrel dog in the 'hood. The owners were trash and never kept it tied up so it would terrorize the area, even chased my daughter on her bike once coming home from school.....three blocks from their house. I interrupted the chase with a seven iron across the side of his head. The night before our regular trash pickup, it would go around and spread garbadge all over the yards and we all got tired of it. So, my neighbor got out his cannon(8 ga.), filled a couple shells with rock salt, then we took a seat in his carport and he rested it on the little wall at the side of the port aimed at the trash cans. Sure enough, here comes the dog(about the size of a Rottweiler) and my neighbor let fly with one shot of the salt....right in the butt. I never knew a dog could run nearly 20mph while dragging and bitting at his butt. Two weeks later the dog disappeared....nobody knows what happened to him.

Really, at some point, these things cease being shotguns and become man portable cannon/artillery.

When I was a teenager back in the late 50's, I liked to read Popular Science & Popular Mechanics magazines.  I still remember drooling over those little ads in the back.  You could mail order a Lahti 20 mm for about $300.  No paperwork or shipping complications then of course.  But even $30 was a fortune to me.  Last one I saw for sale was close to $10,000 I think.
