Started work on the 86 Aspencade

Started work on my dad's old '86 Aspencade. It just needs some TLC. New pulse generators are among the list. The first thing I've done thus far is to take a look at the infamous connection from the alternator/stator wiring.

I cut out the bad connector and spliced, soldered and heat shrinked some wire in place of the old connector.




Finally I wrapped the three wires in some protective sheething.

check them up at the voltage regulator also. just did one a couple of months back that was bad up there too.

  Thanks for the "heads up" I will look into it. This is a project that has been sitting idle in my garage for the past 1.5 yrs. My dad has been riding a 89 Venture Royale during that time. I brought this bike to my house , my dad said do whatever I wanted with it. The main reason he stopped riding it was what turned out to be a pulse generator problem. It needs new rear shocks though and  a few other things to make her good.Cosmetically , it's not too bad, but around the two tone paint there is like this pin striping decal that has been de-laminating  for lack of a better word. I might try to remove this. Don't know if that's possible without re painting. The rear shocks are air shocks and I'm not sure if I'll go back with air shocks or not. The on board air compressor still worked the last I knew. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on her, just get her running and riding well. It's got a chrome rails around the sadle bags, I'm tempted to remove those and the trunk and sorta F4B her .

the rear shocks are tied to the front forks through the air system. so if the forks are leaking the whole suspension won't work. also the rear brake is tied into the frt brakes. I think it is connected to the rt front disk?
ps: pull the fake gas tank cover and the regulator is on the left side of the frame spine.

if the rear shocks are anything like the ones on the 88-00 wing they are easily rebuilt and parts are readily available. check the wing boards. I have a set of 95 wing shocks on my valk and had torebuild the right side(air side) shock 15 bucks in parts and about 20mins in time.

yes, already have pulled the body work from over the tank. Have pulled the seat and backrest so far as well. As far as the brakes, I rebuilt the master cyclinder for the rear a couple of years ago and yes its tied to the front right I believe. The rear shocks, I don't know if their interchangeable with the 1500s but I kind of doubt it. I have not decided whether I'd go back with some air shocks if replacement is necessary. The current shocks are worn out for sure and the rubber boots have disintegrated.   I've thought about buying some progressive shocks and just blanking off the air supply. We'll see.
