It is NOT a Valkyrie, it is a F6C

The European and Asian Demo Bikes have F6C on side covers, only North American models have "Valkyrie" see below video ...

As far as I'm concerned, it's not a Valkyrie here either
They should have stopped at "Goldwing f6c" and I wouldn't dislike the design so much...or baby f6b :tickedoff:

Gavin_Sons

WNGD, out og your 140 post you have made here more than half of them are about how much you hate the new valkyrie. We get it, you dont like it so whats the deal? Are you trying to make everyone hate it?

You know, I kinda like the F6C. I don't much like the Goldwing Valkyrie.

I'm not crazy about it either, but I do like the Goldwing F6B more.  in reality, I don't think  i'll have to worry about it, since it seems that this cycle (the Valkyrie) will last me a long long long time.  :cooldude:

Seems like I remember that the word "Valkyrie" has something negative about it in Europe.  Something to do with Nazi's maybe?  Slang term?

I know that I am repeating myself but, It's a new model, it's the problem of having the name Valkyrie on it. We associate it with ours, which it is not. It's just a new model.
Now this is getting interesting........

The old Valkyrie was known as the F6C in Japan and other non-American markets. Nothing new here.

Jess from VA

It wasn't Operation Valkyrie (to kill Hitler) that did it.  Relatively unknown.

It was Wagner's, Flight of the Valkyries (and all his symphonies) being Hitler's favorite music, and close association with the Nazi party that did it.  Relatively well known.

Does anybody know when they will be rolling these bikes out to the showrooms so we can all take a good look and see what we think about them for ourselves?

I heard that there will be 1 maybe 2 at the motorcycle expo in indy this weekend. I'm going tomorrow to find out.

Yep, same thing I understood years ago.  Remember, the Japs were allied with the Nazis as leg 2 of the Axis and they are sensitive to not offending potential customers - Except us of course.  Better safe than sorry, not calling it the "Valkyrie" when selling descendants of Nazi victims costs them no lost business, but using the name very well might.  Particularly if some overly sensitive folks go viral with it.

When the Germans went into battle, they had big speakers on the front of some tanks. They would play the Flight of the Valkyries as they charged in a blitzkrieg offence.

PhredValk

Wagner wrote Ride of the Valkyries; Flight of the Valkyries is a heavy metal concert/review in St Paul or Baltimore. The music festival is dedicated to metal bands with female lead vocalists.

When a NEW thread comes up, I can't offer my opinion again if it's been on another thread?

And who's the "we" that gets it?

I'm going to throw a leg over it at the motorcycle show next weekend and maybe I'll change my mind a bit. Would it be OK with you if I comment again?  ???

PS
there's 3 or 4 on this thread and a couple hundred on others that aren't enamored with the design either. Are you counting their comments as well? I get it. you don't like that I don't like it and have stated it many times, whats it to you are you trying to get people to like it for some reason?

Chippy01

In my '98 Valkyries' Log Book, under manufacturer it has HONDA, under model it has GL1500C.
My buddys' '89 GoldWing is tagged in his Log Book as a HONDA GL1500.

I would surmise that the terms GoldWing, Valkyrie and F6C are just 'street names' that are more easily recognised than the 'official' model terminology.

I wonder what the 'official' model tagging would be?
GL1800 for the present GoldWing, GL1800B for the recently launched F6B, and GL1800C for the latest incarnation of the Valkyrie/F6C?

They made a movie about it with Tom Cruz and during the promotion of the video he was straddling a Valkyrie Rune!  I'd say that's relatively well known.   :coolsmiley:

I believe the movie was "Valkyrie" and it was about the plot to kill Hitler, as I noted. No doubt the movie is well known. Here's some info on it for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyrie_(film)
What I was refering to was the reference to Wagner music, particularly Ride of the Valkyries (a favorite of Hitler), as being why the name was not used in Europe. That (the music connection) was noted to be "relatively well known", not the movie. I am interested in learning about that. You may wish to read the posts slower so you don't get confused on the subject matter.

Gary, the Valk was sold from '97-'03.  The movie came out in '08, and I do not think that many people knew that one (of about a hundred) plots to kill Hitler was called Operation Valkyrie, until the movie was released.  Obviously, Honda's decision to use F6C in European (all non-US) Valk sales was made in 1996, or earlier.

On the other hand, Hitler's and the nazi party's love for all of (German born) Richard Wagner's music and unique operas was very well known.  Some of the music was used in Herr Goebbels propaganda films well before the war, and certainly during some of the well publicized Nuremberg rallies/marches.  The Ride of the Valkyries was/is among Wagner's best known tunes.

I suppose it's possible Honda decided against the Valkyrie name in Europe was for all of the above reasons.

In any event, it is clear that the Japanese (who still refer to us as Gaijin), and who were allied with the Nazis in the 2d great War, did not want our motorcycles to remind anybody in Europe of past bad history.

Edit:  More from Wikipedia

Wagner's writings on race and against Jews reflected some trends of thought in Germany during the 19th century;[237] however, despite his very public views on Jews, throughout his life Wagner had Jewish friends, colleagues and supporters.[238] There have been frequent suggestions that antisemitic stereotypes are represented in Wagner's operas. The characters of Mime in the Ring, Sixtus Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger, and Klingsor in Parsifal are sometimes claimed as Jewish representations, though they are not identified as such in the librettos of these operas.[239][n 18] The topic of Wagner and the Jews is further complicated by allegations, which may have been credited by Wagner, that he himself was of Jewish ancestry, via his supposed father Geyer.[240]

Some biographers have asserted that Wagner in his final years came to believe in the racialist philosophy of Arthur de Gobineau, notably Gobineau's belief that Western society was doomed because of miscegenation between "superior" and "inferior" races.[241] According to Robert Gutman, this theme is reflected in the opera Parsifal.[24

AND

Adolf Hitler was an admirer of Wagner's music and saw in his operas an embodiment of his own vision of the German nation; in a 1922 speech he claimed that Wagner's works glorified "the heroic Teutonic nature ... Greatness lies in the heroic."[249] Hitler visited Bayreuth frequently from 1923 onwards and attended the productions at the theatre.[250] There continues to be debate about the extent to which Wagner's views might have influenced Nazi thinking.[n 21] Houston Stewart Chamberlain (1855–1927), who married Wagner's daughter Eva in 1908 but never met Wagner, was the author of the racist book The Foundations of the Nineteenth Century, approved by the Nazi movement.[252] He met Hitler on a number of occasions between 1923 and 1927 in Bayreuth, but cannot credibly be regarded as a conduit of Wagner's own views.[253] The Nazis used those parts of Wagner's thought that were useful for propaganda and ignored or suppressed the rest.[254]

While Bayreuth presented a useful front for Nazi culture, and Wagner's music was used at many Nazi events,[255] the Nazi hierarchy as a whole did not share Hitler's enthusiasm for Wagner's operas and resented attending these lengthy epics at Hitler's insistence.[256]

Because of the associations of Wagner with antisemitism and Nazism, the performance of his music in the State of Israel has been a source of controversy

Well, you were the one who suggested that I was trying to get people to dislike the new Valkyrie so i was wondering if the opposite might be true. Personally i give people a little more credit to make up their own minds...

As for your assertion that you "rarely see you post on any thread other than the new valkyrie", that's demonstrably false or you're simply seeing what you want to see.

Even a cursory view of my posting history shows 12 posts on either 3 or 4 new Valkyrie threads (yeah I'm really dominating them )

I don't feel like I have to cheerlead everything that Honda puts out and feel free to voice a dissenting opinion that quite a few agree with, you? I happen to like the classic Valkyrie style better.

And my posting history also shows I post an average of a quarter post per day, so chill buddy.

Did I mention the new Valkyrie is ugly (to me)?  ;D
As I said, I get to throw a leg over t next weekend and maybe I'll change my mind in person.
