Alternator help

My alternator croaked (46,800 mi. )  no surprise I guess. 
The numbers on it are LR140-722
It is a Hitachi also 8Y9.

I am seeing a lot on Ebay with some small difference in numbers.  -718,-719 etc.  Is the 722 critical?
I assume LR140 designates 40A.  I do not have a lot of extra electrical stuff.  Should I consider a higher amperage?  It is a trike but the tail lights on the kit are leds and I run a gps.  Nothing else that was not on the stock bike.
Any thing to stay away from?

don't buy the Chinese junk.  Here's an oem replacement hitachi made in japan.  I put this in my bike will fit Valk.  Just need to clock it.  Easy to do you just turn the mounting holes to fit the valk.  it's cheaper than the Valk specific model they have but it's exactly the same.  Good luck putting it in it's a major PITA!!

See if there are any alternator rebuild shops in your area. Alternator went south on my Interstate late last year & I was able to find one off a Goldwing (higher amperage) for $105 OTD with trading my old core in. Entire job took me about 3.5 hours to do... About an hour to remove old one & 2.5hrs of fussing & cussing the new one in!

Some will tell you they are noisy but I got one from M A R S-Motorcycle Alt Rebuild Service in Indiana. Just enter M A R S in your search engine and he has a price list photos of his shop and a phone number. The cheap chinese wire is most likely what made it fail. Call the guy-he will explain it and walk you thru his options. And IT IS a ROYAL P I T A to change out-BUT you WILL be a member of a new club!!  RIDE SAFE.

Just replaced mine last week.  Got it on amazon from a company called LActrical.  It was $145 shipped.  Best price I could find.  Doesn't say Made in China anywhere on it and they had good reviews.  Getting it out was a bit of a pain, but went back in EASY - put a dab of grease on the dampers so they "stick" to the case and stay in place, loosened center cover and slid it up out of the way and then slide the back of the alternator up and towards the rear and it popped right in.
