Hello all, my good friend Curtis_2 Valks told me about the forum and I've been taking advantage of your shoptalk, very helpful. I'll probably be asking a lot of questions as I've only been a valk owner for a short time. Anyway nice forum, hope you don't mind me dropping in..

It's a 98 Tourer, The right side saddle bag was busted off so I had to remove the left bag until I can find one, reasonable, or better yet cheap, It needs a little TLC and a paint job, 57 Chevy green is not my favorite color. Before anyone shoots at me , I didn't say it was ugly, to the contrary I get lots of compliments on it. I eventually paint every thing I ride (at least once) Red. Thanks for the welcomes. Hey I understand about Curtis, he is a great guy, but does get a LITTLE touchy about some subjects ;D

Welcome...I'm a newbie as of the last July.  Always wanted a Valkyrie even though I had not had a bike for almost 30 years.  Found mine by accident through a friend and man-oh-man it is great!.  '98 Standard with 9,700mi when I got her.  Life post Valkyrie is way different than life pre Valkyrie!

Re Saddlebags: Call Tom Lazanas at NS Motors.  214 882 4891, cell.  I was there (WB I-30 service road, west of Buckner, behind the Palace Cabaret) last week looking at a salvage KLR650 for a friend and they have a pair of hard bags that I think he said came off an Ace Tourer.  I'm not positive, but I believe they are the same bag as the Valkyrie Tourer.  (If anyone can clarify, please chime in.)  They are not pretty (unless you have a soft spot for pearl white with pink and purple stripes).  They look like they got really wet or submerged at some point, but I don't think they are cracked or rashed.  They should be cheap.  No stays or mounting hardware - just bags.  Tell him Dave on the yellow valk sent you.

A really nice set is going for $650.00 on e-bay and he is wanting $400.00 for his, do you think they are worth that much? Are the hinges and latches rusty? I've got some one close by that could check on them If you think they are reasonable. I been seeing them on e-bay from 2 to $300.00 dollars per side, but since I'm having to do a little body work and paint anyway I was hoping to find the right side with a little damage to get it cheap. If I can find a set cheap enough, I guess I could sell my left side. Let me know what you think, thanks

At first blush, $400 sounds a bit high for those.  I didn't pay close attention to the latches and hinges.  I did open them and look at the insides and there were some corroded wires and connectors in there.  There were not any non-stock brake lights installed, but perhaps the side reflectors had been modified as running lights / turn signals.  Given the wires are corroded, I'd bet the hinges and latches are less than perfect.  I may be wrong, but, again, I just didn't pay close enough attention.  If the hinges and latches are OK and there are no cracks or rash, all they would need is paint and stripes.  One good thing about these is that there is no Valkyrie Tourer paint scheme on them.  The reason that is good is that the stock tourer bags are painted, then striped (with a kit available from Honda), and then the paint and stripe are "buried" in clear coat.  Even though the stripe is buried, it is still somewhat raised.  When I had mine painted, the underlying stripe was a good "go-by template" for our hand-laid stripe tape, but the additional height was a problem in the prep and paint phases.  Too much prep on the existing clear would peel the underlying stripe.

For perspective, I paid $660 this spring for a perfect pair of Sedona Red / Cream saddlebags with carpets.  The keys were not there, but the seller gave me the code off the ignition key so I could have some cut.  I then had to add paint, stripe, stay system, and mounting hardware.

I'm about 30 miles away, but would be willing to go back and take pictures if I'm closer than your friend.
