Funny in a way-I CAN NOT stand the hyphenated American either.  When you become a citizen of the U S of A you are supposed to break off your allegiance to your old country and SWEAR allegiance to the U S of A-being hyphenated is NOT swearing allegiance to your new country. But being as I am an old cranky white guy-ah HELL no I AM an AMERICAN-with NO hyphen. RIDE SAFE. And B T W-enjoyed that interview with the Duke.

It's so good to see him, I'm gonna watch it again. It's like seeing one of my departed friends or family.

He was always my favorite actor, not so much for his acting skills, but because of what he stood for in the roles that he played as well as the way he portrayed himself as a man.  I am sure that he had feet of clay just as do most all other men, however as a young man, I always looked up to him and the ideas he espoused through the roles that he played and the simple, straight forward way that he talked and carried himself.  He was AMERICAN through and through!  I really hated to see him go...Jim

Very good interview!  I was always a fan of the Duke.

You might want to see "The Shootist" the last film that he made.  A lot of his philosophy in the interview comes across in the film.

For me, this is his best film.  Many actresses and actors are in the film, maybe because they knew it was his last.   His character, John Bernard Books, was a tired old gun slinger dying of cancer.  Jimmy Stewart, Lauren Bacall, Hugh O'Brien, Richard Boone, Ron Howard, and Harry Morgan.  It was made about the time of his interview.

I agree Wayne, that was one of his better works, but almost all of his movies were good.  He wasn't a great actor, but he was a great American, and I always respected the man.

I enjoyed most all of his movies as well.

But one of my all time favorites was The Quiet Man (1952). (few finer ever made)

The story, tradition, Ireland, the characters, the fight, dragging his wife 5 miles, the music.

Thornton: Like the sight of a girl coming through the fields with the sun on her hair... kneeling in church with a face like a saint..

Michaleen Flynn: Is this a courting or a donnybrook? Have the good manners not to hit the man until he's your husband and entitled to hit you back.

Michaleen Flynn:  Is that a bed, or a parade ground?  A man would have to be a sprinter to catch his wife in a bed like that.

A great movie.  I agree with solo1, they should do 24 hrs of The Quiet Man on St. Patty's day like they do with Christmas story on Christmas.
