Thanks I have a woodies fairing to put on also that is what brought this tear down on. Just redoing the fork springs and oil so when I get the fairing on I don't have to take it back off next year to do the service

I'm in the middle of a front end rebuild myself. I'm going ahead with the steering heard bearings, because I had to remove my Woody's fairing to do the forks. I got some really awesome sound from the audio equipment I put in my Woody's let me know if you want to know more.

Well, I ordered my Woody's with the standard 4) 5" marine speakers that Glen supplies. I put a Kenwood head unit to supply the source that includes a remote , USB, AUX and Bluetooth. It also has an IR remote that i mounted to the left handlebar mirror. I've been happy with the head unit, got a good deal from Best Buy. The only thing I would've changed is to buy a head unit with a wired Marine remote. The reason being that the remote works fine except sometimes with direct bright sunlight, the IR signal seems to get washed out and the radio won't respond. This doesn't happen often , but it does. Also, the remotes' buttons are more numerous and thereby smaller than I'd prefer. I've looked at the various Marine wired remotes and they seem like a much better choice. I have another Kenwood head unit that can accept a wired remote that I think I'm going to swap out. So just a little heads up.

The sound with just the original speakers and the head unit was ok, but got washed out at highway speeds. Last year I replaced the 5" speakers with  2 pairs of Kicker KS5250  5.25" speakers

Due to the spacing between the speaker cut outs that Glenn puts in the fairing, I did not use the grills that came with the Kickers but instead, I used a Dremel to cut the grills from the 5" marine speakers. I then painted them to match the red in my red and white. Actually it's a paint color called "Ford Red" I found at Autozone that is very very close. I mounted the Kicker speakers from behind and the cut and painted grills to the front.

The amp I used is rated at 75 watts per channel RMS times four at 4 ohms. I just used the front two channels and wired the left two speakers in parallel and the same for the right two. This means that with the Kenwood I am delivering 100 watts to each side RMS. I originally thought I might add larger speakers facing inwards  to the saddlebags and use the remaining two channels for this, but I have been so pleased with the results with the four amplified Kickers, that it hasn't been done,,,yet
I don't know what your knowledge of audio is, but I've been somewhat an enthusiast in home and car audio for years. I can tell you that amplification, amplification is where it's at. Don't be led astray by WAY inflated wattage numbers claimed on cheap amplifiers and by some head units. Some head units will claim 45 or 50 watts per channel. This is bunk. You only start to reveal the truth with RMS numbers. Most head units only deliver 10 to 20 watts RMS per channel in reality.

The results I garnered from my upgrade are spectacular to say the least. The four Kickers deliver a punch  you can feel in your chest while riding down the highway. I was really surprised by the stark difference. The 4 Kickers actually deliver some surprisingly good bass. I don't know how the Rockford amp delivers. I was leaning that way until being urged to go with the Kenwood by a local installer who does a lot of custom bike audio. His words were that I wouldn't regret it. He was so confident in it and actually took the time while we removed the outer shell of the Woody's to investigate. One thing the Rockford has is the foot print is smaller. I was prepared to mount the amp in one of the saddlebags if needed. As it turned out, I was able to fit it in the fairing. The amp is only a little over an inch thick.

I went with this unit because the IPod or mp3 or I phone goes inside the unit the face flips down and there is a tray for it inside.

I've been caught in some miserable rain and not had a problem. No they are not marine grade speakers, but I'll put them up against the marine speakers that came with the Woody's. Actually one of the original marine speakers broke in under a year. The tweeter broke loose from the support post. It would rattle when you turned up the volume. They were never abused. The Kickers have a polypropylene cones and rubber surrounds which will be fine.Really the only difference you'll find with true marine speakers is that the voice coil is sealed away from the elements. That sealing,depending on quality and manufacturer may fail. The speakers are near vertical and behind the speaker grills, so any water that might make it onto the actual speaker is extremely unlikely that it would find it's way into the voice coil. JMHO

Your gonna love it and as far as the paint goes I tried to get a mix when I had those bags painted but like I said before it wasn't even close to a match so had to spend the extra $$ and get it right

So how much of the of the Y130 did you use???  was it a pint or quart of base and pearl??  I will need enough to do the bags and faring, but will have more black than you did,,, I am going to do the inner faring yellow like you did,,,  looks GOOD!!!!!

Depends on your height pancho.  Back when I ordered mine from Glenn, he told me that a 10" shield is pretty much equivalent to the stock OEM windshield.  

I'm 6'2" and look just over my 10" Fast Aire Aero with recurve.  

I have an 11" also, but the top of the shield is right at my line of sight.  I don't like it....and I don't want one any taller as I don't want to look through a shield.  

I have three shields that I rotate out depending on weather, temp and time of year.  

A 4" Fast Aire straight shield in solid black for when I want ALL of the wind and when it's hella hot outside.  

A 7" Fast Aire Aero with recurve in light tint for most of the year......and the 10" Fast Aire Aero with recurve in light tint for the winter, cold cold months.  

You'll want more than one shield.  You can change out shields literally in a minute or two.  Losen the three nuts/bolts, slid out the shield, slid in the other shield, tighten the three nuts/bolts and you're done.  

The ones without a recurve are cheap enough that you can buy several to play around with.  

For reference, the shield on my bike in my sig pic below is the 10" with recurve.

I originally got a 10 ", but replaced it with an 8" recurve from Aero something. Fastaire I believe. I'M 5'8" and I look over it, did the 10" as well. I'm sitting on an Ultimate King Big boy seat.

Look over it and like Bruce I have more than one shield luckily the extra shields that I had when I owned my Street glide fit this fairing.

I've been used to a standard windshield, and just got a clearview shield replacement that is chopped two inches from stock. I have a Corbin seat and the way I sit in it, I am completely looking through the shield,,, but it keeps all the wind above my head which I like so I can wear a hat.... no helmets here....  I am looking for the same type of wind protection, but I guess I will just need to try some different ones. I will hold off on the expensive Aero shield until I get it figured out.
