the other day i was down hill skiing and i noticed it was easier for me to carve my left turns more than my right.  funny thing is i'm right handed (not by choice). 

so, does that make me a liberal?  'cause i favor my left?  am i going to hell 'cause it's easier for me to carve a left?

see, i was born left handed.  when i was in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade i was writing with my left hand and i remember teachers and even my parents forcing me to change.  they'd say it's not right to write with your left, it's right to write with my right!!  as fate would have it, my older brother broke my left arm, so i ended up writing with my right.  i've seen penmanship papers of when i was writing with my left hand, and writing afterwards with my right hand.  clearly i had more control of my movements with my left and my letters were more fluid and graceful.  but, being the devote catholics that my parents were, and believing that lefties were the spawn of the devil, they used the cast incident to make me write with my right. 

now, once again, i'm being convicted of being the devil incarnate for favoring my left......  oh well, at least when I die I won't be living in Wisconsin.....  this being "gods" country and all.  After this last winter, I could use a nice hot eternity!!

Alph, it is my experience that 90% of riders do hard tight lefts on motorcycles better than rights, and left or right handed is irrelevant.  I certainly do, and the ground off parts of my floorboards prove it.

This has been discussed on here before.  Some tried to equate it to right side driving in the US, road crowns, and similar arguments to irregular front tire wear, or being programed from sitting on the left side of cars where we see better to turn left than right, or that we can take most sweeping left turns faster than hard rights at square intersections.  I don't really buy any of that, and I do not know why.  I just know I can fall into a hard part-dragging left more easily and confidently than a right, and the vast majority are the same way.  And needing to pull a tight Uey from a lot or gas station, I will often maneuver to make it a lefty, even if I travel a little farther to set it up than a righty (without even thinking about it).  My right boards are also ground down, but not as much as my left.

It is a mystery.

yeah, but explaining it to the wife and kids is a little embar"ass"ing.....  i was able to blame it on the neighbors dog, then they put up a fence.  the other neighbor has a little poddle, that oraface is too small, can't blame it on the deer, they make pellets, so i keep an ice cream bucket by the toilet for the extra flush of water to help push things along.....

I disagree.  I don't leave a party or gathering because people in one room are discussing politics and people in the backyard are discussing religion.  I'll just sit by the pool sipping a cold beverage.  But, in an hour or so, I may join the folks in the backyard or the other room, then head back to the pool to see some boobies.

If people are staying away because of political or religious threads, it's THEIR loss, not ours.  Live and let Live is what I would want from my brothers in the club.  I don't want to be around folks telling me a shouldn't talk about this topic or that.  It's bad enough that a motorcycle board is as censored as this one is.  The sight of a nipple will have us all cursed.

I usually don't interject in the political threads, although I often read them. If I don't feel like reading them, I don't. I think this forum has about the right amount of censorship and self policing.  I hold back my comments on the lefties and the non-Valkies most times. But I still enjoy some of the jabs.
There is another Valkyrie forum. Which one is more active, and by how much, and why?

I am a member of the Cadillac-LaSalle forum which is very strict about politics and any other brand of automobile. All years Cadillacs & LaSalles are welcome, but nothing else can be discussed. There are millions of Cadillacs, but I can visit that forum once a month and still catch up on the same page.

Dr. Gary, I respect you highly.  So much as I remember no other man has kissed me recently.       However you are wrong on a couple of points.

1.  Yes, it is the reason many previously frequent participators have left.  It's not the only reason and I agree that you wouldn't but is is a big reason for many.  It really only takes a handful of loud mouthed verbal bullies to pretty well shut down active discussion.  That happens, too, in a face to face gathering.

2.  It is to a degree our loss.  One of the things that keeps our community strong and useful is the numbers,  As the numbers dwindle, so does our usefulness.  It would be an interesting experience for some of you to try to sell paid advertising to raise the funds needed to support a dying community.

3.  The sight of a nipple will not cause any of us to be cursed.  It may, however, cause a change in the tone of the discussion.  We don't have a pool here on the message board.  Lots of folks simply decide they have better things to do with their time.

I really enjoy pursuing conversation with you most of the time despite your being from New York.  Actually I must adjust my prejudice as my own father was originally from New York, other end, and he was a U.S. Navy pilot as well.  Life is complicated, isn't it?

As I look back at all the members even from the old board I find that many have left for many reasons. I look at other sites pretty much with the same turn over. Actually some dont even get the play that this site does. If I like the site and want to post a ride report or a bike related post it does not stop me just because someone is posting other things. Self control is a good thing. I remember many years ago Oz pretty much made a post like a epitaph of this site. Well that was quite awhile ago and we are still here. So like I always say if you dont like the post dont click on it but once you do and read then dont post on it and if you still come back and read and then post then that is poor self control. I really dont let others run me off, I can make my own decisions for my own reasons. Why does a post of someones stop you from posting what you want? Seems pretty  to me.

Couldn't our dwindling numbers also be due to the fact that the reason for the club in the first place is an unpopular  motorcycle that was only made for 7 years and hasn't been made for 11?  There are simply just less Valkyries on the road each year.  I can think of dozens of folks who are no longer around because they don't have Valkyries or don't even ride any longer.

Of course the falling numbers sucks, but I think the people that left because they couldn't skip over less than 5% of the threads would have left for something else eventually.  I'm not saying some didn't leave for that reason only, but we CAN'T censor discussion topics, because where does it end?  No HD posts because some of us say bad things about them and some members own HDs and may be offended.  No Heavy Metal posts because Country music fans are incapable of skipping over those posts.  No car tire posts because a sponsor sells M/C tires and threatens to pull out?

We keep hearing suggestions (not from me) of a seperate board for P & R, but the only reply is from someone other than the admins saying "Never Gonna Happen", but we never hear why it will never happen.  If we are so concerned with folks leaving due to P&R threads, why not maker even "harder" for them to get to.  Maybe if they had to click an extra 2 or 3 times, it will stop them from opening threads they don't like.  I know, I know,.... never gonna happen.

And what is it about NYers that make you believe conversation would not be enjoyable?  Not sure about who is in the rest of your world, but the NYers here such as OSS & Bonnie, Big D & Li'l D, Bonzo & Patty, Taz, Patrick, Raverez, Buffolo Bill, and the rest of us folk in the Empire State are really wonderful people.  Oooooooooh, you're a State-ist!  You're waging a war against NYers!  The only reason you don't like NY is because of our state colors!  Can't we all just get along?  Can't some people just ignore the man-made borders of states?  Can't we ignore the color of a states flag?  I though we were supposed to be the post-state-ist generation.

   We all love biking and our Valkyries.  The bikes and their problems have been disused, solutions have been posted and filed on the tech board. The love of our bikes and riding is what links us together.    We come to this board because we all have something in common.
  If you as a member of a motorcycle club all met in a bar or a club house you would talk about more than motorcycles.  If you go to church on Sunday do you only talk about God at the end of a service? You talk to other church members about the kids, school and maybe even politics.  When talking to neighbors do you only discuss what's happening down the block?  At work do you only discuss work?
  You would make a very small world for yourself if you did that.
  The relevance of this site will change as we get older, as our bikes get older.  Many of us will trade in our Valkyries for a new set of wheels in a retirement home.   When the site shuts down (and it will) wouldn't it be great to relive some of the good times here and on the road?   
  It seems funny to me that people make a choice to click on the general board knowing that the only information they wanted was on the tech board already.
