Photos from Panama (not political or Valkyrie related)

This has nothing to do with anything but I recently returned from a trip to Panama and have been working through the sorting and processing of some 4,000 photos from the trip. It was a good trip and I really enjoyed it. Next time I hope to go for an extended time and possibly ship the Phat Gurl down to ride while I'm there. A lot of remote country, mountains, and twisties to ride through.

I actually thought that earlier in the day, when I saw it lying face down in the middle of the road, that it was a dog or cat that had been run over but then I realized it was the dog's teddy. It does kind of look like a critter, doesn't it?

What did you use to take them?

A Canon EOS Rebel T3. It's their low-end Digital Single Lens Reflex but it does a good job. I've been pretty happy with it. I wouldn't mind having a Canon D1 but I can't see paying more for a camera than I paid for the Phat Gurl  so I'll stay happy with the T3 for awhile.

I first started out shooting  black & white back in 1974 and I've always liked it. It's a little different animal in digital but I'm learning.

Panama is one of the places we are thinking of retiring to when we retire in 10 years.  We want out of the icebox.

By the way, the "Bo Derek" shot came about when some guy came up to me on the beach at Playa Venado (a big surfer beach I was told) asking if I would take some photos of him in the waves with his boogie board and send them to him, so I obliged him. Don't get too excited. The girl is his sister and is just 14. 

My girlfriend, who is not 14, made sure I knew how old she was. Not sure why...

The Canon Rebel is doing a great job, of course the main thing is the one behind the camera.  I especially like the black and white pics. Are those taken in Raw and did you run them through photoshop to get the Ansel Adams like contrast?

I would imagine that you are sold on digital by now, I know that I am.

Wayne, I am completely sold on digital. I do shoot RAW files and convert them to jpeg in Canon Utilities. I have an older version of Photoshop that won't read RAW files but between the two programs I manage to get things done.

I actually convert the RAW files to monochrome but leave them in RGB rather than grayscale. For some reason the black&white seems to pop with just a little more contrast when I do it that way. And quite a few of those shots never saw Photoshop but were done completely in Canon Utilities.

I shoot my first wedding in over ten years Sunday. Wish me luck.
