I was born/raised outside NYC. My Mother taught me on numerous occasions that "Anyone who owns a gun is crazy". I had that concept going into the military where I was taught to use an M16. Without going into details on the internet, I've gotten over my Mother's teachings.

In the article linked to by Romeo, Michael Cantrell says, "The bottom line is that the textbook is wrong and is misinforming students about what is written in the Constitution, giving them a fundamental misunderstanding about their right to own a firearm," then later says, "Since this is a right that comes from nature, or for those who are religious, from God, no government has the right to take it away, or severely restrict it."

Because the Bill of Rights doesn't mention "nature", "God", or a "Creator", and unless he is referring to some other document, it seems that Mr. Cantrell is, himself, misquoting the Declaration of Independence, which says, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." I.e. All men, whether they believe in their Creator or not, are endowed by their Creator with these rights.  The idea that "nature" can endow rights to anyone is preposterous.  The only thing that "nature" could possibly give us a right to, is death.

You Canadians are just a bit jealous because you cannot have handguns (especially concealed handguns).
The RCMP and Parliament will protect you against home invasions and individual attacks on your lives.  :cooldude:

But...to address your points:

Some Canadians might be jealous of Americans' right to bear arms, but probably much fewer than you think.

The vast majority of threats to Canadian lives would NOT be mitigated by handguns on our hips or shotguns under our beds.  We would be better served by reducing our dependence on Doritos and double doubles.

Let me tell you, no informed citizen of Western Canada has any misconceptions about the RCMP's attitude concerning protecting our homes from illegal entry.  Ask anyone from High River.

Actually most of the Canadians I know are/seem less aggressive or maybe more afraid of the consequences of "bad or anti-social behavior".

But I do believe that legal handguns could/would reduce the chances of home invasions and personal attacks.

But living near the Detroit/Windsor border, you are right, I don't know much or virtually anything about western Canada.
