Went to see Noah

Pre seeing movie:
Yeah yeah yeah. I see all these posts carping about how bad it is. Doesn't follow the bible enough. What do you expect when Hollywood goes to history, or the Bible. Grow up and realize that Hollywood is always going to be a little off from, reality, or the book.

Seeing Movie:
 :o   >:(   :tickedoff:

After Movie:
Why oh why didn't I just listen to those guys and avoid the painful disaster that was this movie? What a crock! I'm pretty open minded on stuff like this. I'm certainly not a right wing Bible thumper. I can handle the fact that other people may read the same passage I do and draw a different conclusion.
But this offensive piece of manure goes way over the limit. This is not somebody, unfamiliar with the material, who simply got it wrong. This is somebody extremely familiar with the material, who intentionally attempted to subvert the message. This guy is obviously familiar with Apocryphal writing and Jewish lore. He drags in irrelevant legends and ignores common interpretations to present a blatantly wrong version of the Biblical story. He usurps the Biblical account to press his own liberal, environmental agenda.
I won't go into it point by point at this time, but the cliffs notes version is that man sinned by raping the earth and eating meat. Man was put here by the creator not to have dominion over the world, but to be a caretaker. And at the end, he left the fate of humanity up to Noah.
I was surprised he didn't work Lilith into it for a little feminism.
The effects were good and the acting was top notch. If this had simply been a sci-fi yarn about the end of the world, I'd recommend it. But I see it as an in your face, thumbing of the nose directed at a specific religion.
Again, I'm probably one of the more liberal member of this board, and a guy very likely to have given this travesty a pass. But even I can't stomach this one.

Siskel and Ebert ain't got nothing on you.

Seriously though, Thanks for the review.

It sounds well thought out and was well written.

We have been thinking about going to see it, now I believe that I will wait for the DVD.

If it is that far off from the original story I wouldn't be able to enjoy it.

Did you know that the (Producer/Director) of the movie (Noah) is an Athesit?

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/mar/24/atheist-noah-director-brags-film-least-biblical-bi/

Actually, I did. I still expected (hoped) for an honest attempt to bring the book to the screen. I don't think Peter Jackson believes in Hobbits but he did his best to be faithful to the book. And Jackson did make some changes, but those were mostly necessary due to the changing the media from book to film. But he was faithful to the original message of the story.
Don't look for that fidelity in Noah.

Pam and I saw it Saturday night.
We both left the theater wondering why the movie was so different from the Old Testament.

I heard Eric read that over the radio waves. Made me laugh at how incensed he was at wasting money and time.

I really looked forward to this movie when I first saw the trailer. The more I
read/heard about it, the less I wanted to see it. I understand that some people
don't believe the Bible or that there ever was a flood, BUT, if you're going to
make a movie titled NOAH and advertise it as being about a FLOOD, at least
have the common decency to follow the original script!!! :tickedoff:
"Evolution" is a dying religion being kept alive with tax dollars.

We saw it Saturday night and we were very disappointed. If you believe the Bible you won't care for this film.

Saw it last night and I agree it STINKS.  I was pissed even though I got a senior discount, it wasn't worth what I paid for it.  As a matter of fact I have a home theater and DVD library of about 3,000 titles and I can say when this comes to DVD, I won't be adding it to the library.   Exploding rock monsters, sucky dialog, Emma Watson's part was mostly bawling, the usual Hollywood formula of action substituting for quality content / acting / plot development.  Never mind the liberties they took with history. How the HELL did they get the likes of Russell Crowe and Anthony Hopkins to sign on to make this putrid piece of crap. What a waste of time and money.  I should sue them for my two hours back.  A REAL STINKER if you ask me.

Shows you what the maker of this film and Hollywood thinks of Christians and Jews. Religion what a joke right, I can do better than the Bible, free thinking liberals are saying to themselves.

Thanks, Guys, we won't be wasting our time and money on this outlandish rendering. I prefer what I heard, and then imagined, in Sunday School, so long ago. The plot review was literally unbelievable...

Valker

As opposed to BigGuy, I am probably one of the more Bible believing ones on the board. I watched it knowing that it was almost nothing like the real story, but I wanted to see a good action movie and special effects. The veering from the Bible wasn't a surprise, but the lousy plot line, mediocre acting, and lack of character development left me cold.
The movie could have avoided the scorn of many by simply starting with a large dialog box at the very beginning stating "Based on a true story".

The fact that God is never mentioned once in the movie and the fallen angels are now rock people with more compassion for mankind than the Creator (yet are taken up to Heaven when they die defending the ark) was a couple of the first clues.

This wasn't just artistic license, they purposely took everything they could from the bible and contridicted/thumbed their nosed at it

Noah is a key figure now, as he was in the old Testament.

What if you had never read the bible, and weren't going to watch the movie with the intention of comparing it to the book?  Would you consider it a decent movie then?

Why would anyone who goes to see a movie called Noah do so with the intent of giving it a review not based on Bible accounts  :uglystupid2: What draw does the name Noah have except the Bible accounts?

Disassociating a famous name like Noah from the Bible and distorting Biblical accounts is just like switching from BC/AD to bce/ce its,  just more liberal brainwashing crap. Why dont we go see a movie called Obama and see someone who defends the constitution and is open and honest and doesn't believe in executive orders because just like Noah it would be lie to the name.

Why dont you go and give us a report.

Didn't all the creatures go on two by two ?

It was said that they went to great lengths to build the ark to exact dimensions. Apparently they know all about cubits.

I wouldn't pay full price for it. Matinee maybe. Even removing the Biblical or religious connection, you can tell there is supposed to be a lot of backstory. Assuming the audience isn't familiar with it, they try to set the stage with flashbacks and stories passed from parent to child. Imagine trying to do "Lord of the Rings," as only the final book and covering all that happened in the first two books as exposition in the first chapter. It's just not going to be successful. Not even Russell Crow can pull that off.
The in-your-face environmentalism is a huge distraction from the story telling. And finally, it's obvious that the theme of the movie is that man is a plague on the earth and should be eliminated. Far from being the jewel of "The Creator's" creation, humanity is nothing more than a care taker of "The Creator's" real prize, nature. And we not only failed at that, but have become a detriment. Even the protagonists are flawed and not worth saving according to Aronofsky. Why the heck should we care what happens to them. Towards the end I was ready for the damn boat to just sink and put everybody out of their misery.
On the other hand, you do get to look at Jennifer Connelly for an hour-and-a-half.

It's my understanding that God didn't consider the men on earth at the time to be "crowning jewels" since he decided to wipe them off the face of the earth.  Are you forgetting that part?

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Genesis 6:5

The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Genesis 6:11-13

So yeah, men were pretty much a plague on the earth.  No?  If that were the theme of the movie, it seems to be pretty much in line with the book.  Yes, we are caretakers of the earth, you disagree?

The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till and keep it. Genesis 2:15

Daddie O. I 'm not going to get into a long theological debate, but God did intend for man to have dominion over creation.
Genesis 1:26
Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
Some men had turned to evil and God was going to destroy them. He also wiped out all of nature, a point that is fuel for ample debate and speculation. Any suggestion that this movie "follows the book," is either extremely misinformed or disingenuous.
Aronofsky clearly had an axe to grind and used this movie as a vehicle to do it. I'm simply not interested in a debate with somebody who can't be honest enough to acknowledge that.

I haven't seen the movie so I can't judge how closely it follows the book.  I'm as honest a person as you'll ever meet, and for you to characterize me as otherwise is wrong.

I can say your characterization of man as someone that is here to have dominion over, yet not care for (be a caretaker of) creation is inaccurate to say the least.  I also disagree with the concept that mankind in the time of Noah were to be considered the "jewel of creation".

As I said earlier, I haven't seen the movie, but I am more interested in seeing it after your review than before.  You say it is inaccurate because it paints mankind of the time in a very negative light, and only worthy of destruction.  It makes me wonder if you read the same book I did.

You've intentionally mischaracterized what I said. I'm through with you on this discussion. Enjoy your movie.

All you see now on the TV are rave reviews. So, I guess I need to see it just to compare. I happen to like Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins and Jennifer Connelly movies anyway. That said, I did see Crowe in the movie version of Les Mis and can say that the man can't sing fer chit.

jimmytee

I won't go and see it. Due to what I've read here and other places. I don't go and see a lot of movies at the theater. I've got a pretty nice set up at home, and heck it beats going to the theater. I do think it's a shame they didn't adhere to the Biblical story. It could have been just as grand without the backlash from the Christian community. God saw what man had become and decided to destroy the earth. Through one man, God decided to save mankind. That is a reoccurring theme in the Bible and a foretelling of things to come.
