1983 Honda CL1000

  I can't find a wiring diagram for the coils. Any help would be apreciated.
  Harry homeowner mechanic helped before bringing it to us.

You might do a search for a CB1000, not a CL1000.

The CL prefix is for Honda "Scramblers".

It is a 1983 CB1000 inline four cylinder. Customer bought it thru a broker who said it ran. They got into the wiring and then brought it to us. I am pretty good at wiring issues , but this one I could use a little help . The timing or coils seem to be the problem. Electronic ignition.

Not sure if this will help, it appears to be in German. The coils look like they are on the bottom of the page toward the middle. At least it has the wire colors.

Not to be conterversisial,  but that's an old GW, probably a GL 1000, not a CB. The engine in the bike shown is a flat 4 not an inline 4. Attached is a picture of my 1983 CB 1000C with an inline 4.

Those DOHC Hondas are known to have stator issues, regulators are another source of charging/running issues. But before you tear into the wiring, remove the right side cover and inspect the stator brushes. These brushes tend to wear out at about 30K. They are cheap and easily replaced, and clean the surface that they ride on with an "ink eraser". I'd bet the stator brushes are worn to the max.

Do the cheap diagnostic/repairs first.

That was gryphon making a joke about the mistaken cl1000 designation. Although a CL1000 might be kinda cool.

Thanks to all who helped. The owner felt that he should not have to spend anymore money on the bike as he already paid someone else to fix it ( then why bring it to us).

           C A N  you say no money , no bike. We have an extra storage garage.
