Why We Ride.....The Movie

   Some months back, there was a thread asking "Why We Ride".... I found the answer to that.
 Anybody seen this movie? Here's the preview and a link I found to the full movie if you haven't.
Absolutely nails it, IMHO.
Just watched the movie, and I'm on my way to Amazon to order the DVD!

this movie makes it so clear to me why I keep telling my dr he cannot amputate my arm. I am 60 years old and have been riding since I was 16. for the last 3 years I have been fighting bone cancer in my left arm and the drs keep saying I would be better off if I let them take my arm off. how could I be better of if I couldn't get on my valk like I have been for the last 13 years and experience the wind in my face, the thrill of her acceleration. I will keep my arm and my valk until there are no more options. I love you guys because we are a select dying breed. I hear it in your threads every day. we know that we are riding the very best motorcycle you can ride, and they are being slowly lost to time.    chuck.

Chuck I don't know you bro but, like many here on the VRCC, I'd like to meet you someday.  I'm sorry about your cancer.  I understand your feelings, I have some much less serious issues I am putting off in anticipation of another riding season.  I am not sure if time is on your side enough to ride for a summer, but you might want you consider another opinion and if it is a matter of life and death please choose life.  I have seen pics of a VRCC member who was riding with a prosthetic leg, and I have heard stories of the legendary (one armed) Bandit, a rider who can hold his Valk through the twisties with his one arm as good as his two handed counterparts.  I think he rigged his controls somehow.  Maybe even an automatic bike could be a possibility.  Never say never, bud.

They make some pretty amazing prosthetics these days. Might be worth looking into if you haven't already. Best of luck to you.

Hang in there.  Sorry about the cancer.

I often tell people that riding is an addiction.  Once you start, it's hard to stop. I learned to ride in the 4th grade. First bike at 19 and except for a 2 year gap, have been riding ever since.

Like all on this or any other board, riding has helped define us and shaped who we are.  I am proud to be part of the biker brotherhood.

Those that don't ride can't and don't understand us, that's OK.  Their loss.

thanks guys for all your great comments. I don't play the woe is me card. it is what it is, and I accept it. but what I love is the way we all feel about these valks. like someone said on this site, if yothe big party in north Carolina in a few weeks.u don't look back at your bike when you get off of it youre on the wrong bike, and I could be wrong but I get the feeling that most of us are a lot like me, somewhere around 60 or better in years, viet nam vets, and kind of living in the past as in we understand that those were the good times and we wont see times like that again. just wanna say, its fun to hang with you or yall, depending on where you live. hope to make it to

Chuck-as YOU are well aware of cancer sucks.  I like your spirit and NO we have never met I believe. Turned 69 Feb this year and a Nam vet. While I do not have bone cancer two other maladies are racing to put me up on blocks!  C O P D and the ever fun ever joyful-macular degeneration-you know-puts a hole dead center in yer vision.  WHOEVER said getting old AIN'T fer wimps nailed it!1  Did a P G R mission today and rolled 112 miles in some FIERCE cross winds and it never got above 42. Between the ride and standing for a fellow Vet-DON'T hardly get no better than that.  I hope and pray you find some way to keep riding my friend-hard to fathom NOT throwing a leg over the Phatt Ghurl and twistin her tail and makin her howl. Cause as we all KNOW our Ladies revel in having their tails twisted and getting to show out in the twistys. Draggin hard parts and burnin up 87 octane-cursed good fun and a helluva rush.  RIDE SAFE.

Were I in such predicament, I'd find a Valk-Trike and get it modified to suit my needs.  ???
