Have anybody had issues with their touch screens going bad on them. Which ones and how many times, I am replacing my third screen on my 550. Is it like the GM controversy on Garmin touch screens or is it my imagination.

Had a 550 for about 4 years, no issues with the screen (it would randomly lock up on me though).

Now have a 665 for 2 years and no problems thus far (fingers crossed).

I have heard of the Zumo 550 having screen issues though. Scads of information on the Zumos here:

I had the screen replaced twice I think on my 550, my 660 I've had for several years now with no screen issues (*Knock on wood*)

Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

Replaced the screen 3 times on one of my 550's.  Finally got tired of being without it and bought a 660.
I also had the rubber buttons on the sides of the 550 pop off and leave a gaping hole for water to get inside.
The 660 has no such rubber buttons, all touch screen.

Rather than sending my Zumo back to Garmin and have to wait a month like the last two times.  I decided to go on EBay and buy a screen, that was well and good with a quick turn around.  Problem is it came in cracked and now going back and forth on email that appears it is a China company, posing as a US company. It seems that when you go on EBay and click on US only, there are China companies posing as US companies. These butt heads don't get the message that we don't want to deal with them because they make and sell crap.  At least back when Japan brought things to US they sold quality in most cases.

I ordered an other LCD screen from an other company for $39 and it works. BUT!!! I think I found a design flaw in the 550.  I know for $150 Garmin will give me a Refurb. Has anyone sent their Zumo 550 back because when you used the touch screen it did not react in the way you touched it. Such as you touched the button and another button lite up or it did not react or did something else.
OK! I found when I was putting the unit back together if the rubber gasket touches the screen or if screws are to tight, it acts this way.  So if the gasket shifts, in some cases you think you have a bad screen. Make sense!!! So in other words in some cases when it got sent back the unit they could just realign the gasket and charge $150 plus shipping

I've done the $150 refurb twice.  Both times they just replaced the unit.  Their TS guy told me that's their policy - they always just replace the unit.  They have the appropriate attitude that the customer is worth more than the product.  If you crunch the numbers in most cases that is absolutely true.
