REMOVING TANK BADGES w/o Screwing it Up!

I always remove badges from most my vehicles, except classics, of course. :)

When I purchased my Black Standard, I removed the badges. Just as I'm removing the second badge,
a paint chip came off with it. :'(

Notwithstanding the disappointment I still like her w/o badges.
Now that I installed an I/S tank I want to remove these badges too.  ;)

Last time, as always I preheated the badges with a hair blower.
One came off effortlessly using a thin fishin' line. The harder part is to remove the epoxy that the badges leave behind. :-\

What did I do wrong before and which product(s) should I use to remove the epoxy? :-X

Thanks!

I used WD-40 and fishing line.... You think the black ones are the fastest....  :2funny:  Too Funny.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

ricoman

it's not epoxy or it would never come off
try goo gone or continual soaking with WD 40 and a soft cloth, sometimes it  can be a pain, just take your time
or be proud of your Valk and leave them on
take personal responsibility and keep your word

If your trying to remove the residual adhesive left behind and you don't have any "goo gone" simply lightly smear some smooth peanut butter on the area (Yep, that's what I said, peanut butter) and let it sit overnight. The next day it will wipe clean. The natural oils in the peanut butter break down the adhesive.

Several people have thought I was pulling their leg over the years with the peanut butter trick but I am telling you, it works!  :)

That Valkyrie is, or will soon be a classic.... So leave it be... LOL

Dental Floss used after you get it nice and warm in th sun or with a hair dryer.  Use the dental floss with a sawing ...up and down or back and forth, to cut the adhesive material before you pull on the badge.  Goof off or WD40 as well.....to soften the adhesive and ultimately remove it.

Once you remove them you need to keep them as far away from the tank so it doesn't try it re-adhere  back on the tank..... So send them to me quickly.    ;D

Folks;
She's was originally "debadged" soon after I bought her in 2011 March. :)
However, my "new" I/S gas tank came with them OME badges, like the original tank did. So,for my taste the OME Badges are coming off! :tickedoff:
True; installation of the "replacements" ought to calm down the most Chrome-Badge-Oriented critics like BF!  :tickedoff:
... and the addiction goes on... :D :coolsmiley:  :2funny:

You're TAKING OFF CHROME???!!!!!????   :D  Who does that?   :o

When I first built my "Rat Rod" 98 Valk, we were at a gathering of many MI Valkyries. There was one guy that was appalled that I removed chrome bits and painted it in satin black and had it "OL Skool" pinstiped.

He said that anyone that would do that should "kicked out" of the VRCC (he was serious).

He said that you're supposed to "add chrome, lights and other accessories", and removing chrome on he Valk is absolutely unexceptable. He was livid that I did the opposite of what he did.

Got any euro badges you'd be willing to sell?

Paxton

As you guys know, the asking price is almost never the final price. Out of respect for the seller I will not disclose
the actual purchase price. ;)
