But if we are American citizens, then we have the "freedom of speech".
If you are not a citizen,.....keep your views to yourself!

Non-citizens should not have any "rights" or receive and type of governmental assistance or even schooling until they receive citizenship.  JMHO

so, what you're saying is, my co-worker Claro, who's been working, paying income and property taxes in this country for the last 13 years, working to become an american citizen shouldn't have the right to send their kids to school, or even voice their opinion against anyone that persicutes him?  are you saying that freedom is only for those "born" here?

how about my parents?  they came here in '53, and it wasn't until 1969 that they became U.S. citizens.  grant it, my father ALWAYS voted democrat ( thats who the unions told him to vote for) where they not worthy of "free speech"?

BTW, neither my parents, nor Claro recieved any government assistance, i do agree with you that assistance should only be for US citizens.

just voicing my opinion to your statement....... (no, i'm NOT mad at you for making that statement, just calling you out on it.)

just remember, these people have "free speech" too;

Promote world peace, ban all religion.

Dont confuse citizenship with being born here. THere are plenty of naturalized citizens here.
I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6

Alph,

My parents came to the US in 1950-51, and immediately started their citizenship process.
They both realized that you can complain all you want, but your voice is only heard through your right to vote. Politicians could care less about your opinions, but will do just about anything to get your vote (at least on a local and state levels).

And my opinion on public education: if you can't bother to become a citizen, then why should we Americans pay our tax dollars to educate alien children.

We can discuss all we want, but for most of these things, the Supreme Court has ruled that ALL PEOPLE are included.  For example, you CANNOT exclude alien children from getting an education.

You can sure exaggerate the alien issues.

I invite you personally to come to my home in Dearborn Hts. I will show you literally hundreds of non-citizens in my neighborhood living off the taxes of American citizens while not contributing anything to our local, state, and federal coffers.

I know Detroit and Calgary are worlds apart in many ways. Do you support aliens coming to Canada and getting a free ride?

You may think that I'm an ultra Conservative, but you couldn't be more wrong. I tend to lean more left of center, but there are things that bother me in ways that make me very angry.

If you read the original post, the lady with the sign had several threats on her life by those leaving the mosque. All she did was smile and said "God Bless You".

Oh by the way, I have two words that you may want to think about,.......Steven Harper.

Momz;
You say "... I will show you literally hundreds of non-citizens in my neighborhood living off the taxes of American citizens
while not contributing anything to our local, state, and federal coffers."

Momz;
It seems to me that you are the busy body in your neighborhood. To know about the unique conditions of "literately hundreds of people"
it seems to me as a gross  exaggeration or a lot of Valkyrie down time. :-\

I exaggerate to make a point. There are privileges that are and should be reserved for bona fide citizens, such as voting, but basic human rights, such as freedom of speech, should apply to everyone who is simply physically in a country that claims to be a democracy. I am aware of Stephen Harper, but have no idea why you want me to think about him. You are welcome to come visit me, and if you want to I can take you downtown to any busy location so you can expound on Mr. Harper's virtues or shortfallings. You will have many agreeing and disagreeing with you, but probably won't be subject to death threats.

By the way, I don't believe there is an entrenched civil right to stay and/or live in any country one chooses to if not a citizen, nor do I believe there should be. I am just glad that the US isn't terribly quick to kick out aliens engaged in illegal behaviour, or Canada would have to out up with Justin Bieber more than we do.

RIDE SAFE when you find the time! :roll: :cooldude:

Paxton,

I ride when I can, but I  live in Michigan. It was still snowing last week.

And yes I do known a lot about my neighbors, as most of them are cousins and/or other relatives. Most of them as well as myself meet and talk to each other. I don't work as I am disabled. I try to spend time outdoors rather than ride the recliner. Most of my neighbors don't work either.

My (selling) home value is dropped to a point that is a joke. Sure home values have dropped all over the country and are slowly regaining value. But in the City of Dearborn Heights, especially in my subdivision and the subdivision across Ann Arbor Trail in the last nine months there has not been sold for more than 10K, with an average selling price of 6.5 K. Just a few years ago (2004 to 2007) the average home prices were from 180 t0 230K. (The City posts all 9 month home sales on a wall in City Hall and I took note when paying my taxes)

We had large influx of middle eastern immigrants and when they outgrow their homes they sell to their family members. In Sharia law it is forbidden to pay interest, so when these homes sell, they sell for ridiculously low prices on "paper". It is obvious that it is a ploy to not pay property sales taxes or interest.

Our subdivision consists of well kept mid-century 3 and 4 bedroom homes, both ranch and colonial style homes. It does seem a bit strange that in a middle class neighborhood that there is so much unemployment and yet most of my neighbors drive late model BMWs, Jaguars, Land Rovers, MBs, etc.

And that Mosque is just a few blocks from my house. I have no animosity toward my middle eastern neighbors on a personal level, but most do not want to be Americans. I find that unexceptable.

Several years back I posted a picture on this board of the Dearborn's Memorial Day Parade showing our middle eastern neighbors carrying the flags of their homelands with smaller American flags below them. That shows no respect for those that died serving our country or what being an American citizen means.

So,....am I a busybody or a concerned American?
