My youngest son (28 yrs) came over today for his first ever lesson and ride on a motorcycle. I gave him about an hour of instruction on riding, then let him ride around our neighborhood loop. He would stop every time around and ask questions and want advice. We went over every aspect of the bike, riding and safety. We had Easter Sunday dinner, and he wanted to get right back out there to practice again. After a few more hours of instruction and practice, we took a 22 mile ride around the lake I live by. What a great and memorable day! I sent him links to Idaho star (a local college sponsored organization that teaches Motorcycle skills, and, whose chairman rides a '97 Valkyrie Tourer).
I think he has been bitten by the fat lady.  :cooldude:

Good for you and your Son, I'm hoping for the same to happen with my son and I. He lives close to 300 miles away, and we have talked about riding. I have a Standard in the waiting for him, whenever he can visit and start training. Good luck and ride safely.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

A very kool experience and great memories. Thanks for sharing! :cooldude:

28 years old ? How did you keep him off for that long ? My oldest son stole my CB 750 at 15 and rode to friends house. Found out years later after I could not KICK his ass.    Otherwise, great JOB. :cooldude:

I love stories that the boys tell when they know it's "safe".
I never had a motorcycle while the boys were at home. I sold my Yamaha Maxim 650 when my first was a few months old. Needed other stuff. I bought my first Valkyrie when they both graduated college, 25 years later. Funny thing, I never gave motorcycles or riding another thought after selling the Yami. Then one day my brother calls me up and says "Hey, would you mind flying to Salem, OR and riding a motorcycle home if I paid for the trip?". I was very reluctant but after a refresher course at his place on one of the 3 Valkyries he owned (and I didn't even know about), I was on an airplane. Bought my first Valkyrie about 2 months after that. I was hooked.

I had one of those yamaha 650 maxim's 20 + years ago. I rode it last couple years of high school. I sold a year or so after school. When I decided a college education might be helpful and moved out of town for awhile. I wish I still had it was a great bike around town. Surprised a lot people how quick it was for a small bike.
My daughter got her first ride on the valk last summer at age 7. She loves it even though we only go slow around our little town. She doesnt quite fit on the back yet her legs are too short. we make it work for now. :)
