Wind noise from IS windshield vent, Tried ideas from search....

I have tried tape in several places to no avail. It's fixin' to be hot in Texas, and the noise is driving me nuts. BTW, found this pic in a new ad in Rider mag-"After hours of wind tunnel testing and thousands on road miles".....Guess they could have just looked at an Interstate.

I've heard of folks using foam or a sponge. Cut to fit and stuff in the intake. This was for rain protection.

Sponge will not totally stop it's function, it will just slow it down and get rid of your noise in the meantime.

Are you really talking about a windshield vent or is it the fairing vent you're referring to? If the fairing vent is noisy, it would seem to me something is loose and dropped into the airflow. However, as with foam over a mic, thin foam tucked into the air intake on the fairing has been effective....but you will lose some flow.

My foam is for bugs.... like jet engine turbines, the bug is sucked in and propelled at hyper velocity right into your mouth (half helmets only)..... fuzzy legs still wiggling.  So mine stays in permanently; I get air around the shield.

I am thinking noise must be airflow passing the edges of the vent, so maybe you could fab some sort of a short box with no bottom to slide in there to streamline airflow.  I've never looked in there carefully, but if there are any rough/uneven spots around the edges, cover them up, but leave the hole open.  Duct tape, shoved in out of sight, might smooth out any rough edges.  Maybe a block of foam with the center cut out.

I feel your pain, I ride a standard most of the time ( now with a Woody's fairing) when I got my Interstate last year the whistle nearly made me scream every time I rode it but I found a good fix for it. TURN THE RADIO UP ALL THE WAY!

There are large gaps between the faring and the inner duct. I used weather-stripping from Lowe's to seal that gap and then used duct tape seal completely seal between the faring and inner duct. It completely eliminated the whistle and if anything, it increased the air flow because there is not any air loss in that large gap. Try this link for some helpful info.

Years ago my vent whistled badly. I rolled up a piece of mesh liner for tool box drawers. Picked it up at Sears Hardware. Nice airflow and stops the bugs from getting thru. Need to pull out once in awhile to clean.

As my bike is still all apart due to my accident, I will tape the edges of the vent but still use the mesh liner.

This must be a factor of the standard high windshield, i have a short, 10 inch windshield on mine, it looks great but for me, zero funtion and less, the wind hits me at eye level, and i took to the highway with a helmet on and oh my gosh the wind noise was unbearable , im going to look for another one, maybe in that 15 inch high, as the other one i have is 21 high, i just need about 4-5 inches more to lift over my head then im good, so i will also wait for this topic of a noise through the vents, this site is so great thanks for all info shared  ! ! ! ! !

Loud pipes and the wind noise will be  gone.
