I thought GM paid most (not all) of those billions back?  Am I wrong?  :-\

What about the Dodge/Chrysler bailout as well although less money involved, still same principle applies to them as well as GM.  Did Dodge payback all that money we gave them?

I don't get at all the govt. bailing out the 2 mfgs. and how it can be done without setting a timeframe on when ALL, EVERY single dime, is paid back in full, and preferably with INTEREST TACKED ON AS WELL! >:(

Dodge/Plymouth/Jeep and all was sold to Fiat for pennies on the dollar. GM is forgiven their debt. Bank America, Wells Fargo, Capital One and who else in the banking industry. And I can't even refinance because the mortgage requirements have gotten so strict. And HARP is a joke, try to get a bank to go that route. We don't need wealth redistribution, we need capital cronyism to end.

The U.S. Treasury's bailout fund lost $11.2 billion on the rescue of General Motors Co. (GM) with the government's exit of the largest U.S. automaker, a report said.

The total includes $826 million that the Treasury wrote off in March for its remaining claim in old GM, the special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program said in a report to Congress today. In December, the government had put the loss at about $10.5 billion on its $49.5 billion investment.

Now investors are flocking in because why would you not invest in a  company that the government erased all the past debt and has put in 45 billion. So now the investors make the money. All the way around a raw deal for the US. They also erased alot of the pension money that people were supposed to get.

GM's CEO was the first I had ever heard of fired by a President of the United States.

He should be impeached himself.

I for one won't ever own a Chevy after this (haven't ever had one yet) or another dodge. I drive a Ram 1500 hemi that I really like but that bailout left a really bad taste especially after the bonuses were given. Wife needed a new car and guess what Ford got the business just because they didn't take the bailout money.

The borrower is slave to the lender. Besides that, Obama runs everything in this country...don't you know that? He can fire whomever he wants

I M H O the whole idea of 'free enterprise" went out the window or ended when the obuminater GAVE tax dollars to any of them. A lot of mom and pop businesses and owner operaters-truck drivers-went under and no gubmint help. They SHOULD have let them sink or swim WITHOUT tax dollars. Had that happened-NO gubmint bailout-we MIGHT have had a leaner more responsive G M. YEAH-right.  :2funny: RIDE SAFE.
