I hope nobody died while trying to call 911 because of this self-righteous moron.
Here there be Dragons.

As tragic as it would be to have someones 911 call interrupted, there have been times when I've been riding and driving that I'd have been tempted to use one on the non-driving morons who ran me off the road. We as a society have become incredibly inconsiderate to our fellow drivers through the use of our phones. If it's an emergency pull over and talk all you want, if not hang up. :tickedoff:
Rant over.

There was an issue about the local stage theater jamming cell phones until they ran afoul of the FCC.  Seems just a google or two would have told them that was a bad idea, assuming they didn't have much common sense. Maybe it was just a rogue employee, surely management would have known better, not to mention their legal dept.

i can just imagine some teenie bop wondering why she just lost her cell connection, then trying in vain to re connect, getting so frustrated that she looses control of her vehicle and crashes into somebody!

neither my wife, or kids can imagine trying to text and drive.  heck, i can't do it even as a passenger!!

I got a text today.

It waited till I got home and in the driveway.

It did not get away.

It can wait. Jammer On.

Big Al of Tennessee

By the way where can I get one.

Tennessee has Outlawed Texting and Driving.

But talk all you want, and the ones that do are idiots about to happen.

You know it was not more than 20 years ago. Cell phones were rare.

We got along without them then.

GOD SAVE THE UNITED STATES from the democrats is my prayer.

JUST because they OUTLAW something don't mean folks are gonna abide by said law. Remember-Chicago was a gun free zone-we KNOW how well THAT worked out.  :crazy2: I still say after 5 M P H the cursed cell phone becomes inoperative EXCEPT for 911 calls.  :cooldude: And Al-you are correct-all we had to worry about prior to cell phones was the driver either being drunk-high-trying to feed themselves-having sex under way-being stupid-etc etc etc.  Been my experience that folks that THINK they can multi task while driving seldom can.  :tickedoff: As far as the list of distractions I posted-while short here-after 43 some years in the high seat of an 18 wheeler-the list is longer than I care to get into now-BUT idiots on cell phones are my numero uno piss off point.  :-X RIDE SAFE.

Sometimes a jammer would be nice but I'd still prefer an atomic death ray.  8)

There is nothing that scares me more than all those drivers on their cell phones (no handsfree device of course) - or worse - trying to text and drive at the sametime -  Especially when on my motorcycle. I would LOVE it if all cells could be disabled at speeds above 5 MPH (even for a passenger) - so people would have to pay attention to their driving.

It's one reason why I prefer manual transmissions in my  cars as well. - Pay attention to your driving !

JC

Don't get me wrong, I hate the inattention to driving that has become the norm when it comes to cellphones and other distractions, and have had numerous occasions where I had to act quickly to avoid a wreck because of some idiot on a phone, but cellphone jammers aren't the answer, especially when it comes to the public's safety.

I'm a radio geek for a major metropolitan city's public-safety agencies, and the bigger problem was eluded to in the story, Police and Fire radios are also affected by the jammers too. The 911 call can't go through, and the first-responders also cannot communicate if the jammer is in the same frequency band as their radios, and in the large metro areas it usually is. Intentional jamming is a real concern for us. We had a fire station that had serious problems hearing their calls, and it took a few days to realize it was an interference issue. Seems a local hardware store across the street from the fire hall was using a jammer to prevent folks from checking prices against their competition on their phones, and once we called them on it the problem mysteriously disappeared.

Damn thing gives me the grins every time I get on it!

The city officials banned texting and driving here within the city limits of Tucson. I have yet to hear about someone getting cited for doing so. I still see people poking on their phones driving on the streets all the time. Just a PR move.

I wonder, if you put the cell jammer on a switch, so that you can turn it on, then off when ever you see someone driving with their head up their ass, would the gestapo be able to find you as easily?

Because of the marketeers, I never answer the phone; any phone. If the call is important they'll leave a message.
I am not that important to be kept informed about what goes on every 5 minutes. Why do I need to know that you didn't like the cheese
in your burger or that you found a bugger in your soup?  :tickedoff:

I take the cell if I'll be riding over 200 miles... but it is always off. If I need roadside assistance, I'd turn it on, make the call and
after getting serviced I turn it off. ;)
When I go out for a ride / drive, it is precisely to get away from the callers, especially the wife and err... the girlfriend.

Many years ago when I commuted on the Valk across Dallas daily, I briefly considered getting a short range one and putting it on a switch to use for inattentive talkers, but that I started thinking, what's more dangerous than a distracted driver in an 8,000 pound SUV barreling down on my at 80 miles an hour? That same driver who just lost her phone call and is even MORE distracted with her phone not working trying to figure out what happened and dial the person back...

Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...
