New Carb Jets

Just order Red eye's carb kit along with desmog kit.  I'm going to order a set of slow speed jets (#35) but is it necessary to replace the main jets (#100) or just give them a good cleaning?  I've read a few post that it's better to replace the slow jets but no post I've read said anything about replacing the main jets.  Any thoughts.

These mains don't have problems, just the lows. I don't have a problem cleaning jets, some do and prefer to install new.

Not sure, most posts I've read that the slow jets cause the most problems.

What you say is true, but, you haven't really mentioned any problem. Are you trying to fix something that ain't broke ?
I'm one who's bike sits for months without being used and doesn't have any problems.

On cold start up sometimes carb float sticks and dumps gas, been doing this for a couple of seasons.  Time to tear down and rebuild.  Bike is 15 years old and nothing has been done to carbs.  All rubber has to be getting boarder line, not to mention it just needs a good cleaning.  I've tried seafoam and techron, problem still there.  While it's tore down will be getting desmog also.

Have you tried draining the crap out from the carburetor float bowls?

And just using an additive when a problem occurs is reactive.

When using ethanol enriched gasoline a proactive approach is really necessary.

Try running better gasoline thru it and non-ethanol enriched gasoline if possible.

A few practices of ongoing preventive measures can make a very large difference

in how the bike performs.
