Can anyone tell me what kind of jacket I can get Shelia that is good protection but won't burn her up in our heat.

  I have a used blue tourer mesh. It does not match the color of my bike.

There are several mesh jackets out there that allow excellent air flow without compromising protection.  I have a Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket that works well.  Joe Rocket makes a nice ladies mesh jacket called the Cleo.

PS dark color mesh is counterproductive in hot sun.

Take a look at some of the beaded vests.  The beads absorb large amounts of water, then cool by evaporation as you ride.  You can wear them under a jacket.  Some riders swear by them.
