But an unbelieveable day of fishing, KICKS AZZ  :cooldude:

My birthday was Sunday, so as a gift to myself I played hookey and went fishing with my son Austin, and his buddy Danny Monday.  We got on the water (Ocauchee Lake, near my place) at about 8:00 that morning, and had our first fish in the boat by 8:30...  Action was better than any day on the water I can remember.  All three of us caught fish, and the only reason our day ended, was because we ran out of minnows...  Total count (the boys kept track) was 18 Northern Pike (released) ranging in size from 22" to 30", 3 Large Mouth Bass (released) from 16" to 19", and 31 Crappie (kept), between 11" and 14".  We weighed a 5 gallon bucket, then weighed it with all the Crappie in it, and we had just over 22lbs of fish!

Crappi pic...  That's a 48" ruler on the table, and not all the fish would lay still for the snap...  A few kept flipping off the table (guess they knew what was in store for them  ;) ).

Our faces look like we did 500 miles in bikes on a sunny day, but the rest of our bodies avoided the sun burn, due to the 48 degree water temp, and a brisk wind, and layers of sweat shirts...

We cleaned fish for two hours, grabbed a shower, and plunked down on the sofa just in time for the 'Jack Bauer Power Hour'...  Austin and I are huge 24 fans, and IMNSHO, this 2 hour episode did not dissapoint

A better day would be hard to come by...  Time with my son, and skipping outta work...  Gotta love it!

Happy belated B/D.  :cooldude: The International Eagle I drove at one time had big chrome covers over the exhaust stacks from just below the lower cab line to where the chrome pipes were. I had two stickers on each side. One stated-I fish therefore I am-the other stated-a bad day at fishing beats 2 good days at work.  :2funny: Fishing with your son-absofrikinlutely-PRICELESS.  ;) RIDE SAFE.

Man, sounds like a really great day to me, Black Dog!

I really NEED to do more things with my son like that.  Since he's been playing ball. it's all about that, but we need some father/son time.  Good teachable time.

Pics or it didn't happen!

I keep a one use camera in my tackle box and have hundreds of pictures of just fishing with the kids since they were little. Great memories.

My wife says "what do you want a whole album of nothing but fish for?"

..

Sory B/D sseing Chloe looking like a Gothicgrannyheavymetalcracksmokinpunkrocker made me laugh at the silliness of it.

The character actor playing the President just wasn't believeable. He's done so many bit parts it was hard to associate him with that office.

And Jacks perpetual heavy breathing, stalker phone voice is just plain overdone.

I used to really like 24 for the first few series but now it's just a rehash of the same old tired plot lines.  ???

keep the crappies on ice and easier to clean especially in the hotter months.

31 crappies weighing 22 lbs. are some really nice sized crappies guessing most 10-11".

Sure wish we had lakes like that nearby most of our lakes the crappies are 8-9" at most with the occassional 10"er.  I haven't seen a 12" crappie in years.

Never had a day that good catching that many northerns/bass/crappies all together ever, just crappies is all.  Over 20 years ago when WI had a 50 panfish limit vs. now 25,  I once caught 63 huge 10" bluegills on Lake Mendota ice fishing filled up a 5 gallon bucket to the rim in a matter of hours and even after running out of bait, they still bit the bare ice fishing jig they were very hungry.

It's events like that which you and your kid will remember the rest of your lives.

Cookiedough, did you just admit to over limit on fish by 13?  :tickedoff:

Hey Brother, I thought about this post all day yesterday.  I don't have a buddy-buddy relationship with my dad, it just never flourished into that for us.  We're not angry at each other or even strangers to one another, it is what it is.  I'm trying hard to make it different for me and my son.

Last night I took him to basketball practice and while we were getting ready to leave, a Yogi'ism came into the conversation.  I told him that Yogi Berra said that 90% of the game is physical and the other half is mental.  He tipped his head and wrinkled brow and said that doesn't make sense.  So I spouted off a couple more Yogi'isms and we had a few good chuckles.  On the way home, the Mrs. called and said she was gonna be home late so I took advantage of the father-son time and we went to a diner for dinner.  We looked up more Yogi'isms and had a real nice time.  Probably meant more to me because of your post, but it was real nice evening.

Thanks again for sharing!   :cool dude:

Gary,

Thanks for the reply...  I got divorced 3 years ago, and when she left, she moved in with her new lover...  No provisions made for her two sons at all.  They were both adults, but one finishing his senior year at school, and the 18 year old (Austin) trying to find out what he wanted to be when he grows up...  The boys took the divorce hard, and were/are mad at their mom.  I've always been close to them, and told them that as long as they worked, or went to school, they were welcome to live/stay with me.

My boys are now 25 & 18.  My oldest is living in Charleston SC, and with the way economy is going, my youngest is working 'part time', and still with me.  We have become closer than we have ever been, and spending time with him is what keeps me going on some days.  When he turned 21, his birthday wish was to take a long weekend, rent a cabin in northern WI, and to go fishing, WITH ME!  :D . His views, insights, and sense of humor are what keep me going  ;)

Some day, I'll be an empty nester.  For now, I love my life, and the fact that my boys like to spend their free time with me too!

Cherish the moments you can grab!

Paul,

Yes, the show has changed...  But, it's a TV show...  Like with many movies these days, check your reality at the door  ;)  Sit back and be entertained, and don't let reality ruin something for you...

As fo Chloe...  To quote Smokin' Joe, 'I'd hit that'
