180 mile range. At what throttle/power consumption? Wide open? I doubt it.

How many $$$ for the largest battery pack to give the 180 miles??

Recharge is quick but doesn't mention 110 or 220. How many 220 outlets are you going to find alongside the road?

what a joke and a lie, ALL of the top gasoline bikes are limited to less than 190 mph thanks to the european UN socialists/marxists.  these bikes are all $10-15k, don't pollute the planet with dangerous heavy metals when the batteries need to be replaced not counting the dangers of producing those batteries. etc., etc., etc.,....

The article says the price is likely to be over $38,000  :uglystupid2:

I've looked on their website and can't find where the company is actually located.  I'm betting California  :2funny:

Any bets that the R&D for this thing was done with Tax dollars??  :tickedoff: I bet very little of there own money was dumped into it. Solendra anyone.

The site kept crashing me, but I thought I read a top speed of 213 or 218. That's not the fastest production bike. The Y2K and Tomahawk will do 250 and 300 mph respectively.

You may be right but here is a quote from the article you linked:

QuoteThe claim to be a production bike is because they were reportedly available for sale though Nieman Marcus at the bargin price of $555,000.

I don't care either way.  I wouldn't/couldn't spend $40,000 or $550,000 on a motorcyle just to go fast.  The Valkyrie is fast enough for me!

Here is the link to the Lightning Motorcycles website since you are having issues with the article I linked earlier.  http://lightningmotorcycle.com/

Chillerman, I was able to go to the site with a different browser. Don't get me wrong, if somebody rolled that thing up in my front yard wanting to give it to me, I wouldn't sic the dogs on them.
The Nieman Marcus thing only applied to the Tomahawk. The Y2K is an out and out production bike. But like you, the Valkyrie has never failed to deliver all I've asked of her. In fact I'm sure that she has much more to give than I'll ever be likely to ask.
I'm casually interested in electric bikes. I bloged about one at the Isle of Mann TT back in 2010. BLOG - The electric Isle of Man. That one toped out at 135 mph. I think in the year 2014, they're still more of a novelty item. But I wouldn't bet much money against them becoming main steam is the next 20 to 30 years.

WOW, just WOW. I, for one, can not wait for battery technology to get to a point where I can ride a touring cruiser that is electric. By the looks of things it will be sooner rather than later. As far a tax dollars being spent on its development, better that then going to some undocumented alien using my money to get a college education in a state school being subsidized by even more of my money. Actually, outside of education for our children, I can't think of a better place for my money to go.

WHY, O' WHY??  :crazy2:  Do u know how heavy it will be? u do know that electric vehicles are only efficient in a narrow ambient temp range of 70-80F, any other temps greatly limits range and lowers efficiency. I'm done.

It's all about energy density.  Lithium-ion batteries are some of the best available.  But given the same weight, gasoline provides about 70 times as much energy as lithium-ion batteries.  In fact, old newspapers have more energy density than L-I batteries.  Be thankful for fossil fuels.

Paul and the team worked on the fairing for three hours in the hanger and tweaked it little by little and then they said it was ready.  We then took the bike out and ran the record speed of 215.907mph (218.637 top speed) and became the fastest production electric motorcycle on the planet.

We spend more money on education than any country in history and are not even close to being the best at teaching kids.
I think a better place for my money is my pocket. I can better decide we're to spend it locally and be 1000 times more efficient.
There is no viable replacement for oil now are anytime soon. There is no shortage of it and it's cheap. Relatively speaking.
If someone can build a battery powered whatever with there money or investors and sell it for a profit more power to them. Just don't waste tax dollars on losers. I don't know for sure if this is one of them but it sure smells like one. I hope it's not.

I guess the article I linked is misleading, or as CA stated, down right wrong!  Even Lightning Motorcycles own website states it is the fastest production electric motorcycle.  I imagine it doesn't have much competition in that category!
