Fairing removal question...Solved with your help!

There might be an easier way but in removing the fairing on an Interstate, does the instrument cluster stay behind or get removed with the fairing as a unit?

I have the inner panels off, the turn signals and the headlights disconnected. The Clymer manual isn't real clear about which screws get removed to let go of the fairing. I should be able to figure it out, but since I have no helper, it'd be good to know if I need to remove any more plugs to the cluster or if it stays behind.

Four screws hold instrument panel to fairing. Remove them and unplug wire plug. Remove instrument panel. Then fairing removal is easy to remove.. Just four more bolts.

When I rolled the fairing forward to change head light bulbs the instruments stayed with the fairing. Don't know if this is any help but there ya go. And-TRUST me when I say rolling the fairing forward to change the head light bulbs be WAY easier than not rolling it forward. Good luck with yer job.   RIDE SAFE.

Yep, like stan said. Remove speaker pods, 4 screws for chrome trim, w bolts for windshield, maybe those can stay, cant remember, then 4 bolts for the fairing. Then unplug the wires from the harness. Pretty simple job

Fairing is off. It first I thought the entire black bracket came off by the 4 screws. There were big azz cables secured to that puppy.

It was much easier with your help to just remove the skin and headlight bucket. I have some paint touch up to do and didn't want to do it on the bike.

Bringing this back from the dead...  It came up in my search..


My front right turn signal is loose.  I took off the right speaker panel but could not get to the inside of the turn signal.

Does the whole fairing have to come off to get to the turn signal?

If so, I saw a nut by the turn signal and a "bar" that ran up vertically with another bolt higher up.  Is that the 4 bolts that y'all were referring to?

Troy yes those would be the four bolts. Top two ,the  fairing mount is slotted and just loosen  nuts to pivot on bottom bolts. I hope that is clear.

Be careful not to over tighten the inner fairing fastsners. FWIW
