Ignition switch bracket issue

The metal bracket that the ignition switch bolts to that attaches to the frame underneath the gas tank with two small bolts and on the engine with one.

On mine (99 standard) the rear small bolt under the gas tank was not there.
It looked like it was there at one time but the hole in the bracket and the threaded hole in the frame would not line up, the bracket hole was about 1/32nd inch higher.

I was able to get it to line up by doing some "bohemian rigging" (drilled the hole in the bracket bigger).

Anybody else have this problem or know why this happened?

The hanger may have slipped or moved in it's jig doing manufacture,,, or the bike may have been in a wreck and have the frame tweaked a bit so that the alignment of the motor is off when reassembly was done after the repairs. If the mismatch was as small as you say, and there are no other problems with the bike, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it as long as the bike tracks straight.

It's a bit late now that you have opened up the hole, but I guess if it was my bike I would loosen EVERY bolt the holds the motor including the mounting bolts for the frame extension rails and shake the engine,, then torque everything back to specs. If the bike was banged pretty hard at one time it can knock things out of alignment without doing much damage.
