3 weeks a go i bought the honda gp4 synthetic/petroleum blend without moly sae 10w-40 sj since then when i engage my clutch from 1st to 2nd it slips/skips on ocassions and also i noticed alittle more exhaust smell .. previous oil was the standard type and i had no slippage in shifting or exhaust smell... has anyone ever had this problem or is common for this oil as it breaks in ..or do i have a completely different issue..... thanks in advance...emrik

Sounds like a failure to get your fingers fully off the lever.

I've run synthetic oil (Mobil 1) for well over 200K miles with no problem or slippage.    Did junk out 1 clutch basket.

I would drain it and get some Rotella from Wally World.

Mobil 20-50 motorcycle v-twin oil and a pure one filter here.  So far, zero problems.
I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

rotella 5w40 is a group III oil which is classified by law as a syn and actually has specs similar to the group IV/V mixtures on the market.  any 15w40. I have mobil delvac 15w40 in the bike right now.  Chevon Delo 15w40 has more moly than the others, but the level is still low enough to not affect the clutch.
I also use AMSOIL 10w40, the one for cars as it has always been rated for cycles, started using it in the mid '80s. Now they sell more $$$ cycle specific oil, a little bit better specs but much more $$$.
my next change I will be using Amsoil 10w30/30HD diesel oil.
and of course MOBIL 1 is used by a lot of people.

mobil one 15W50 is the automotive grade to get if that's what you want to run. It is the only one without friction reducing agents. This is what I run is my bikes.
