Rode a Harley for 10 years. Now on a Valkyrie. Pleasantly surprised. Highway Pe

Hello, new member here.  After riding Harley Road kings for the last 10 years, I decided to look at other bikes.  Found a 1999 Valkyrie Interstate on Craigslist and took it for a test ride.  I absolutely loved the smooth quiet acceleration.   Never rode a six cylinder motorcycle before.  WOW!!!! 

Can anyone recommend a good quality highway peg for my Valkyrie Interstate?  I'm looking at installing them on the lower 1" support bars for the engine guard.  I am 5-11.

Dave, Do those swing past the forward part of the crash bar or does it catch on it?

I've got the Kuryakyn 4050 on my Valk but couldn't find a comfortable position for them. I have a 33" seam and found the best place for the pegs was where the arms fit on the crash bars.

I didn't want to lose any chrome by removing the arms so with a bit of fiddling I kept the arms and added some marker lights to them.
You can just about make them out in this photo.

Have the Kury road pegs on my I/S and at 6' 2" and a 32" inseam I have the legs of the pegs forward. I have them positioned so when I stretch out the heels just above the soles of my boots rest on the top edge of the road pegs. And for a week or two I kept the allen wrench and the box open wrench handy for the tweaks til I got them to the SWEET spot.  RIDE SAFE.

Won't go past the engine guard.  (Looks like they might on the Wing photo posted by Ky Dave)
If you want them that far out, go for the guard mounted model.
They come with either 4" or 6" arms.  I really like the 4050's with the 6" arms, but I bought them from a guy who bought them new, tried them, & hated them.   I think they do best for shorter inseam folks.

Beware of adjusting them so low that the arm would be the first thing to touch in a lean - a disaster waiting to happen.

Goofy is at the lean end!  On the Phatt end-myself included-we can head towards mental.  Sides the Phatt ghurls we ride it is a love of the wind.  RIDE SAFE.

Dave, my legs are too short to reach that far so I never tried, but to the best of my recollection they would not.

Dave, my legs are too short to reach that far so I never tried, but to the best of my recollection they would not.

That's what I thought, Thanks. I usually end up getting something to mount on the other part of crash bar for the length I need.

Hey, welcome aboard! Looks like you got your answer regarding pegs. I just wanted to say welcome. My brother has a Harley Road King. He bought it salvage and I helped him put it together after tearing it down and fixing the problem (very minor). He took it apart to add a customer paint job. It's a very nice bike and a real keeper. He rides it everywhere when in town, but takes the Valkyrie Interstate when going on trips, as do I. My "around town" bike is a '97 Standard. Sweet rides all. Welcome to the forum. Information here on anything Valkyrie you could ask. Also information on things you wouldn't ask

Welcome.  I too left a Hog to get my Valks.... almost 10 years ago.

The 4050s are great and have the best no-move clamp available, but only will go to the engine guards.  If you want them farther forward (and to save some money), just get some Kury 1 1/8" (not Harley 1 1/4") quick clamps for the 9 and 6 o'clock on the outer sweep of the engine guards and mount the pegs of your choice to them (like male mount Dually's), no offsets necessary (and you can adjust the leg reach to them by turning the clamps straight out or somewhat back, or even mounting the pegs ahead of the guards instead of behind them).  Your feet on the pegs bent knee, or your heels over the pegs straight legged.  I have one of each setup on my interstates.

As you can see, if you mount 4050s all the way to the guards, you may as sell save the expense of them, and just mount right to the guards themselves.
