Tire size question

My speedo is about 3 mph over the actual speed. I figured out a tire sized that will drop my speed reading by 1.8% about 1 mph at 60, but I want some opinions on if it will fit well or not.

The tire I'm wanting to put on is a Bridgestone 240/55-16. It will be about 1/2 inch taller overall and 1 inch wider than the stock 180/70-16 tire.

Opinions? Experience? Knowledge? Suggestions?

Thanks

The speedometer drive is located on the Front tire,
changing the rear tire will have no effect on your speedometer.

Stock tire sizes..
front tire 150/80-R17
rear tire  180/70-R16

60 mm is about 2.4 inches (240-180=60).  That may cause you significant rubbing.

Ah well that makes sense. Thanks for the info. that changes everything.

The ratio for the sidewall is lower making the overall width difference only 1 inch. maybe a hair less.

Thanks guys now I'll just get the 200/60-16 that was recommended to me already.

I put a 200/60 on and there was very little space between the swingarm and the tire.  Enough, but the 240 wide.. That's 20mm on a side wider then the 200. There's no way.

I think you'll find that the width (240) is the width. (Some difference between manufacturers, but not much).  The height is defined by the series, based on the width.  Anyway, i think the tire would be unuseable.

I wasn't crazy about the handling of the 200/60.  Made the bike feel like I had to "tip" it into the turn.  WOuldn't think it would make much difference but I could feel it.
It did look badass though!
